Spider-Man Spin Off Silver & Black Dropped From Sony’s Release Schedule!

It wasn’t long ago that the Spider-Man spin-off Silver & Black had a release date, but things looked to have changed. The Spider-Man spin-off has been pulled off the calendar by Sony.

The Hollywood Reporter notes the film “will no longer be hitting theaters Feb. 8, 2019.” However, they don’t say the film has been permanently shelved. It appears it’s just being put on hiatus as the studio searches for another date for the film. The film was expected to go into production in March.

Silver & Black is expected to center around two female characters from Spider-Man’s neck of the woods. Silver Sable, owner of Silver Sable International, is a mercenary who hunts war criminals. She was created back in 1985 by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz.

The other half of the title is Black Cat or Felicia Hardy. She’s a talented acrobat and burglar like her father. Black Cat has been an on again off again love interest for Spider-Man. She was created by Marv Wolfman and Dave Cockrum in 1979.

Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet wrote the most recent version of the script. It’s unclear if Sony will be looking for a different script, but director Gina Prince-Bythewood recently said the team is working on the script. Obviously, if they were still working on the script, there’s no way they would have been ready for a February 2019 release date especially since they had already missed the originally scheduled production date in March.

It’s possible they are reworking the script after some pretty extensive plot details were allegedly leaked.

Silver & Black is just one of the many Spider-Man projects Sony is currently developing. They teamed up with Marvel Studios for Spider-Man: Homecoming and will see their first feature film debut this October with Venom starring Tom Hardy. There are a few others in the pipeline in different stages of development. We know that a Nightwatch film and a Morbius the Living Vampire movie are also development.

As of right now, Silver & Black is off the release calendar at Sony Pictures. It’ll be interesting to see if the film does in fact get off the ground after failing to go into production as scheduled and then completely taken off the release schedule.
