Star Wars: Boba Fett TV Series Rumored for Disney+

A new report indicates Disney and Lucasfilm are developing a Boba Fett TV series for Disney+.

Boba Fett first appeared in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back as the fearsome bounty hunter who tracked down Han Solo and the Millennium Falcon.

At Home on Disney+

An insider spoke to We Got This Covered and confirmed that Disney is looking to adapt Boba Fett for their new Disney+ service. No cast or plot details have been announced.

This rumor comes after reports that the Mandalorian cost $100 million for the studio to make, so it is reasonable to assume the Boba Fett series could be getting the same treatment. Back in 2017, there were reports of a Boba Fett movie but ultimately nothing came to fruition.

A Long History

Audiences were first introduced to the intergalactic bounty hunter 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back. He was then featured in Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983). He was also retroactively featured in the first original Star Wars, Episode IV: A New Hope.

At the end of Episode VI, Fett fell into the Sarrlac Pit and seemingly died. He was not mentioned to have lived in any subsequent movies, so it is quite possible he remained dead. However, in the now non-canon Expanded Universe, Boba Fett was able to escape the Sarlacc Pit. He would go on to lead the Mandlorians in the Yuuzhan Vong War. In his later years he would track down his granddaughter Mirta Gev and go on a number of missions with her even alongside Han Solo. Fett would also train Solo’s daughter Jaina so that she would be able to defeat her twin brother Darth Caedus.

In the prequels, he is featured heavily in Episode 2: Attack of the Clones where audiences learn Boba is a clone of Jango Fett, a famed bounty hunter himself. He would take on a more prominent role in Star Wars: The Clone Wars where he joined by up with fellow bounty hunters Aurra Sing and Bossk in a plot to kill Jedi Master Mace Windu. His plot would eventually fail, but he would take on a number of other bounty missions with his own team.

The TV show could explore a number of different time periods in Boba Fett’s life. One possibility is that he survives the Sarlacc Pit and could even cross paths with Pedro Pascal’s Mandalorian character. They could also delve more into his life following the events of the Clone Wars and focus more on his bounty hunting escapades.

He has since achieved cult status, rapidly becoming one of the most popular characters of the franchise. He has been increasingly called one of the best characters of the series, being placed at #84 on Fandomania’s Top 100 Characters of All Time. In 2008, he was selected by Empire magazine as the 79th greatest movie character of all time.
