Rumors swirled after San Diego Comic-Con 2017 that the Gotham City Sirens project may not be a go after the Suicide Squad spin-off was announced back in December.
Mashable led those rumors when they reported, “A person with knowledge of Warner Bros. plans characterized them [Gotham City Sirens, Nightwing, and Black Adam] as ‘still viable’ projects, adding that the studio only brings ‘the big stuff’ to Hall H.”
Mashable tried to bolster their argument using Ayer’s statement during a San Diego Comic-Con panel promoting his Netflix project Bright. They questioned his role in the film, “Would he dare do that with another big-budget blockbuster job still on the line?”

They also correctly noted that Gotham City Sirens was absent from Warner Bros.’ lineup of upcoming DC Extended Universe films.
However, David Ayer has responded, seemingly putting the rumors to bed. He tweeted out an image of Harley Quinn looking out from behind a door that is extremely reminiscent of Jack Nicholas’ character from The Shining.

Gotham City Sirens was originally a comic book series starring Catwoman, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy. It ran for 26 issues from June 2009 until August 2011. The series was created by Paul Dini and Guillem March.
The initial setting for the series saw Catwoman have her heart cut out by Batman villain Hush. Batman then retrieved it and had Zatanna heal Catwoman. After recovering, Catwoman enacts her revenge on Hush by stealing all of his money and giving it to Gotham’s criminal element of the female persuasion which included Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Holly Robinson.
The movie will most likely drift from the original comic run as Ayers teased Black Mask might be the possible villain in the upcoming film in a tweet from this past February.
