A new rumor indicates that DC Film’s upcoming Supergirl film will feature longtime Superman and Justice League foe Brainiac as the main villain.
The rumor comes from SuperBroMovies’ Daniel.
The plan (for now) is that Brainiac will be the main villain.

There aren’t any confirmed details about the Supergirl film, but The Playlist speculates that the film would be “a period piece set in the 1970s (though this could change) with the young Kryptonian as a teenager.” If this rumor pans out it’s possible the Supergirl movie could be taking place outside of the DC Extended Universe’s continuity which sees Henry Cavill’s Superman coming of age and defending Earth against General Zod in 2013. The year can be seen in the title sequence of [easyazon_link identifier=”B00G91WB3S” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Man of Steel[/easyazon_link].
DC also introduced the title Worlds of DC at San Diego Comic-Con last year hinting that they will be doing out of continuity films that are separate from Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, and Justice League. In fact, they are already moving forward on an out of continuity Joker origin story with Joaquin Phoenix taking on the role of the Joker.
However, it’s also possible they could introduce some kind of time travel wrinkle with either Wonder Woman 1984, which will have to explain Chris Pine’s return as Steve Trevor, or in the upcoming The Flash film which had been rumored to be an adaptation of the [easyazon_link identifier=”1401233384″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Flashpoint[/easyazon_link] story line which features an alternate time line that includes Martha Wayne as the Joker and Thomas Wayne as Batman.
As for the villain Brainiac, long time DC Comics fans know him as one of the Justice League and Superman’s biggest foes. He’ most recently been featured on SyFy’s live-action Krypton show as the primary villain. Brainiac-13 and Indigo aka Brianiac-8 have also been featured on Supergirl.
Brainiac is usually depicted as an android or cyborg who has extremely advanced calculation abilities as well as enhanced memory and an advanced understanding of a number of sciences. He also has access to numerous alien technologies which he as acquired over the course of his life. Brainiac is sometimes referred to as the Collector of Worlds because he will go around miniaturizing and collecting planets.
It’s possible DC might be looking at Brainiac as a Supergirl villain because in their live-action adaptation of Krypton they make Brainiac responsible for destroying Krypton by miniaturizing the Kryptonian city of Kandor and stealing it. The theft of the city destabilizes the planet’s core and ultimately leads to its destruction. Supergirl would be alive and well to witness Brainiac’s destruction of her planet. That traumatic moment would be a great set-up for a showdown between Brainiac and Supergirl when he shows up on her new home planet of Earth. She would want to make sure he would not be able to do what he did to Krypton to another planet ever again.
Do you want to see a Supergirl movie? Would Brainiac make a good villain?
