Tony Stark Says Farewell in Marvel Studios Avengers: End Game Full Trailer

Following a brief teaser trailer on Instagram, Marvel Studios dropped their first official trailer for Avengers 4 or Avengers: End Game.

Take a look:

The first part of the trailer focuses on Tony Stark as he struggles to survive in space following Thanos’ devastating attack on him at Titan. This longer scene definitely provides much needed context that was missing from the teaser trailer that appeared to indicate Stark was on a suicide mission. That indication is completely wrong as he is struggling to survive and has simply run out of resources. He gives an emotional heart-tugging farewell to Pepper Potts in the grim outlook that he will die the following day.

From there we see a number of the Avengers dealing with their grief, but they aren’t just dealing with the attack from Thanos. Captain America and Black Widow appear to have a plan and are hellbent on making it work.

But maybe the biggest surprise in this trailer is the fact that Ant-Man has survived and escaped from the Quantum Realm. It’s unclear how he has done so, but he appears to have arrived outside the Avengers mansion.

What’s really interesting is that Scott Lang tells Captain America and Black Widow that he met them at the airport a few years ago. It’s hard to really tell how much time passes between films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so this line could hint at a decent time jump between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: End Game.

We assume Avengers: Infinity War happened rather shortly after Captain America: Civil War because Tony Stark and Captain America were still feuding with each other during Infinity War.

But what makes Ant-Man’s words even more interesting is how Captain America responds to his arrival. Captain America asks Black Widow, “Is this an old message?” Black Widow responds, “It’s the front door.” I’m sure many will speculate this hints at a time travel, but I’m not so sure that’s what this means. It could just mean that Captain America and Black Widow assumed that Ant-Man had been dusted like many of their friends. In fact, Bruce Banner appears to be looking at all of the Avengers who were dusted and Scott Lang is front and center.

However, I do think earlier in the trailer, time travel is definitely hinted at. With Scott Lang somehow out of the Quantum Realm, it’s possible he inspires Captain America and Black Widow’s plan that they guarantee will work. What that plan is, it’s hard to say, but Captain America looks at pendant with Peggy Carter. From what we’ve gathered in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain America has moved on from Peggy Carter, why would he be looking at her pendant if not thinking about running into his old love again? It’s quite possible Peggy Carter might play a pretty big role in Avengers: End Game and it could connect to the Red Skull and the first discovery of the Space Stone all the way back in World War II.

What do you make of the trailer? What theories are churning in your head after watching it? Were there any little Easter Eggs you noticed that could hint at the larger picture?

Avengers: End Game hits theaters on May 3, 2019.
