Vin Diesel Reveals His Birthday Present: The Riddick 4: Furya Script

Vin Diesel took to Instagram to reveal he received The Riddick 4: Furya script as a birthday present.

Diesel has played the anti-hero, galactic outlaw, and leader of the Necromongers Richard B. Riddick in the franchise that now consists of three films and this fourth script. The franchise also consists of a TV film and an animated short.

Riddick

Diesel’s Riddick first appeared in the horror science fiction flick Pitch Black in 2000. The film would be accompanied by a TV movie titled The Chronicles of Riddick: Into Pitch Black.

He would reprise the role in 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick alongside Karl Urban’s Vaako, Thandie Newton’s Dame Vaako, and Colm Feore’s Lord Marshal. The film would expand Riddick’s world and put him in the center of a galaxy spanning prophecy. The film would be accompanied by the animated short The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury.

The franchise would return to its horror roots in the 2013 film Riddick with Vin Diesel reprising his role.

Hannibal of Carthage

Not only did Vin Diesel reveal the script to Riddick 4, but he also indicated he continues to practice the “archaic arts” of archery and bolas because there is interest in Diesel playing the legendary general of Carthage, Hannibal.

Hannibal was the leading commander of the Carthage forces during the Second Punic War. THe famously led his forces into Italy by crossing the Alps with African elephants. Hannibal would defeat the Romans in a succession of battles. In fact, he would occupy most of southern Italy for 15 years. However, the Romans led by Fabius Maximus avoided confrontation and thus prevented Hannibal from defeating them. He would eventually be defeated at the Battle of Zama by Scipio Africanus, who led a counter invasion of North Africa and forced Hannibal to return to Carthage.
