Warner Bros. released their first Shaft trailer starring Samuel L. Jackson, Jessie T. Usher, and Richard Roundtree. Take a look:
The film will feature three generations of Shaft and sees Richard Roundtree return to the character he first brought to life all the way back in 1971. Samuel L. Jackson will also reprise his role as Shaft from the 2000 film.
Here’s the official description from Warner Bros.:
“JJ, aka John Shaft Jr. (Usher), may be a cyber security expert with a degree from MIT, but to uncover the truth behind his best friend’s untimely death, he needs an education only his dad can provide. Absent throughout JJ’s youth, the legendary locked-and-loaded John Shaft (Jackson) agrees to help his progeny navigate Harlem’s heroin-infested underbelly. And while JJ’s own FBI analyst’s badge may clash with his dad’s trademark leather duster, there’s no denying family. Besides, Shaft’s got an agenda of his own, and a score to settle that’s professional and personal.”
This film is directed by Tim Story based off a screenplay by Kenya Barris and Alex Barnow. It will also star Regina Hall, Alexandra Shipp, Matt Lauria, Titus Welliver, and Cliff “Method Man” Smith. The film is based off novelist Ernest Tidyman’s John Shaft character, who debuted in [easyazon_link identifier=”1524100161″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Shaft[/easyazon_link] back in 1970.
