WonderCon Officially Postponed Following California Department of Public Health Recommendations

WonderCon has officially postponed their annual event. This morning, the governor of California recommended that gatherings of 250 or more people be cancelled. The event was supposed to be for the weekend of April 10-12 in Anaheim, California.

The Convention committee is looking at the developing situation concerning COVID-19. And to prevent the spread of the virus they are listening to recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in regards to WonderCon. However, no decision has been made regarding San Diego Comic Con, scheduled for this July.

Slates for Films Shifted

This comes on the heels of recent news this morning that Fast 9 delayed their release date almost an entire year.

Earlier this year, No Time to Die had moved to a November release date.

And A Quiet Place Part II moved its premiere to a later, unspecified date.

Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson also recently announced they have Coronavirus.

There are also concerns about upcoming Disney and Marvel films. Mulan, and Black Widow respectively. Mulan will premiere on March 27 of this year. Black Widow comes out in theaters on April 24 this year. However, under the current health crisis, even those dates are not certain.

In other industries, the NBA has cancelled the rest of their season in the wake of two Utah Jazz players contracting the coronavirus.

E3, the Electronic Entertainment Expo for 2020 has cancelled their annual gathering. And CinemaCon recently has also cancelled their convention due to concerns over the spread of the highly infectious disease.

Similarly, Coachella has moved their celebration date and a number of studios including Marvel has halted production on a number of their shows.
