Dune TV Series Featuring Bene Gesserit In The Works From Director Denis Villeneuve

WarnerMedia has greenlighted a companion Dune TV show from director Denis Villeneuve and writer Jon Spaihts.

Variety reports the new Dune TV show will be called Dune: The Sisterhood and it will focus on the Bene Gesserit as they wield their political acumen throughout the Imperium and pursue their plans that leads them to the planet Arrakis aka Dune.

For those unfamiliar with the Bene Gesserit, they are a group of powerful women who seek the Kwisatz Haderach, a male Bene Gesserit who has the mental powers to bridge time and space. They do so through a very structured breeding program that they have instilled throughout the Imperium.

Bene Gesserit are trained to maximize both their physical and mental potential. They practice a hand-to-hand combat technique called the Weirding Way which is unrivaled. They also have the ability to use The Voice, which allows them to influence individuals by giving them a command.

The pilot episode for Dune: The Sisterhood will be directed by Villeneuve based off a script written by Jon Spaihts. Villeneuve and Spaihts wrote the screenplay for the upcoming film alongside Eric Roth.

“The Bene Gesserit have always been fascinating to me,” Villeneuve said. “Focusing a series around that powerful order of women seemed not only relevant and inspiring but a dynamic setting for the television series.”

The series will launch exclusively on WarnerMedia’s upcoming streaming platform. It will be produced by Legendary Television. Villeneuve and Spaihts will executive produce with Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, and Kim Herbert representing the Frank Herbert estate. Kevin J. Anderson will co-produce.

Author Frank Herbert published Dune in 1965 and would take home both the Hugo Award and Nebula Award. The book is considered one of the greatest science fiction novels of all time. He would go on to write five sequels exploring the world of Dune and the nature of man.

The upcoming film adaptation of the novel will star Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Momoa, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, and Dave Bautista.
