Eminem Calls Out Netflix After Punisher Cancellation

Rapper Eminem took to Twitter to call out Netflix after the streaming service cancelled The Punisher.

Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, tweeted in all caps:

“DEAR NETFLIX, REGARDING YOUR CANCELLATION OF THE PUNISHER, YOU ARE BLOWING IT!!

SINCERELY, MARSHALL”

Netflix announced earlier this week that both Punisher and Jessica Jones would be cancelled and not be renewed for subsequent seasons.

“Marvel’s The Punisher will not return for a third season on Netflix,” their statement read. It would add, “Showrunner Steve Lightfoot, the terrific crew, and exceptional cast including star Jon Bernthal, delivered an acclaimed and compelling series for fans, and we are proud to showcase their work on Netflix for years to come.”

The cancellations for Punisher and Jessica Jones weren’t that big of a surprise for many fans of the Marvel TV series on Netflix. Netflix had already cancelled Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Daredevil.

Analytics firm Jumpshot also reported that Punisher Season 2 viewership was down 40% compared to its first season. The second season also saw much lower critic and audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes.

While the shows were cancelled on Netflix, Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb hinted in an open letter that the series might continue on a different network.

“Our Network partner may have decided they no longer want to continue telling the tales of these great characters… but you know Marvel better than that.”

Bernthal would thank fans for supporting the show on Instagram.

Are you upset that Netflix cancelled the Punisher? Do you think Eminem is right to be upset about the show’s cancellation? Do you think it might find a new home on a different network?
