Fatman Beyond Rumor: Disney+ Show The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Will See U.S. Government Not Want Sam Wilson to be Captain America

A new theory from Marc Bernardin on the Fatman Beyond show with Kevin Smith indicates the upcoming Disney+ show The Falcon and The Winter Soldier starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan will revolve around the U.S. government not wanting Sam Wilson to become the next Captain America.

While discussing Marvel’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con and more specifically The Falcon and The Winter Soldier show, Bernardin states, “The government doesn’t want Sam Wilson to be Captain America.” When Smith questions Bernardin on how he knows this information, he responds, “I read it. Somebody wrote it. Put it on the internet.” He adds, “He’s got the shield and they don’t want him to have it. They want somebody else to be Captain America.”

At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Captain America returns from his adventures across the Marvel multiverse of timelines, where he was returning the Infinity Stones. During one of those adventures, he appears to have absconded with the vibranium Captain America shield and bestows it upon Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson. The scene heavily implied that Steve Rogers was leaving the duties of Captain America to Sam Wilson.

In recent Marvel Comics, Sam Wilson becomes Captain America after Steve Rogers is aged into an old man. Rogers appoints Wilson as his official replacement. Wilson would eventually butt heads with the U.S. government and even have his visitor’s badge revoked by S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Maria Hill.

The reason Hill decided to revoke Wilson’s clearance? Sam Wilson decided to use his status as Captain America to involve himself in political debates.

If Bernardin’s rumor pans out to be true, Sam Wilson might be in quite a bit of trouble during the events of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. We know for a fact that Daniel Brühl will be reprising his role as Helmut Zemo. Not only will he be reprising his role, but it appears he will take on the role of Baron Zemo and even don the iconic purple mask. It’s quite possible Zemo could exploit Sam Wilson’s standing with S.H.I.E.L.D. and the United States government to continue to sow chaos among the Avengers and seek his revenge. It’s possible the show could resurrect Hydra or even introduce the Masters of Evil.

Given the show is titled The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, it’s also likely that Sam Wilson might even have doubts about taking on the role as Captain America. It’ll be interesting to see if he wants to become Captain America or if he wants to continue to forge his own identity as The Falcon.

What do you think, about this new rumor?  Will Sam Wilson officially become Captain America? And if so, what problems could the US Government have with him taking on that title? Let me know your ideas!
