Greatest American Hero Gets Reboot, But It’s Going to Look A Lot Different!

Remember Greatest American Hero? Well thanks to the likes of shows such as Family Guy, it has seen a new spike of interest. ABC has officially ordered a pilot episode for the reboot from Fresh Off the Boat Executive Producer Nahnatchka Khan. But it won’t be your typical reboot, there are going to be some major changes to the show.

Entertainment Weekly reports this rebooted Greatest American Hero will be led by a female actress who has yet to be named. Of course, the show is still based on the 1980s television series. It’s unsure how much from the original series will transfer into the reboot. But with the current reports. Many changes are coming.

Greatest American Hero will focus on Meera, a 30-year-old Indian-American woman who loves tequila and karaoke. She’s spent her life searching for meaning and ultimately failing. This comes at odds with her traditional Indian family.

If you remember, the original run of Greatest American Hero saw William Katt as a school teacher who was gifted superpowers by a group of aliens. It’s unclear if the aliens will return in the reboot. I wouldn’t be against ET using his glowing finger as long as it’s above the belt!  Meera will receive a super suit and is tasked with protecting the planet. However, with Meera’s past, Earth might not be in the best hands.

ABC has tasked Rachna Fruchbom, known for Fresh Off the Boat, and Parks & Recreation, to write and executive produce. She will be joined by Nahnatchka Khan, Mandy Summers, Fierce Baby, and Tawnia McKiernan.

All this comes as ABC head Channing Dungey said the Greatest American Hero’s development was an example of ABC not slowing down on superhero themed projects. I wouldn’t be surprised with the failure of Inhumans for ABC to be a little cautious when they evaluate the pilot episode.

How do these details make you feel? This is a pretty major change for Greatest American Hero. Do you think fans of the show might return to give it a try? And can ABC put together a project that is both modern and well done? Let me know in the comments below!
