It’s not much, and it certainly isn’t a full trailer for the show, but we do get a first look at Regina King’s character, who is reported to be named Angela Abar.
The first shot shows a figure looking out into the distance of what appears to be an oil field on fire. You can see the flames rising above the trees creating an orange, reddish background.
The next image shows a hooded figure in the basement or garage of a police station guarded by an officer with a yellow mask or yellow skin.
The third image shows Jeremy Irons’ Ozymandias about to blow out a candle that’s on top of a yellow cake with blue icing.
Finally, we get to see Regina King’s character. She appears to have just come upon a person or some kind of event. Her character looks like she is in shock or horrified by what she is seeing.
Little is really known about HBO’s Watchmen series. a few photos leaked back in June of in-universe newspaper headlines as well as street signs and vehicles.
The props seem to indicate that there is some kind of new government ruling the United States. However, the structure of government might still be similar as one of the newspaper headlines indicates that the Senate approved a NASA vote. It’s possible this could indicate they plan on seeking out Doctor Manhattan.
Another headline claimed Ozymandias was dead, but we’ve seen two clips now showing off Jeremy Irons’ Ozymandias alive and well.
Last May, Watchmen showrunner Damon Lindelof wrote a five-page letter to Watchmen fans revealing the show would not be adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ graphic novel.
“We have no desire to “adapt” the twelve issues Mr. Moore and Mr. Gibbons created thirty years ago. Those issues are sacred ground and they will not be retread nor recreated nor reproduced nor rebooted.”
He would confirm that the Watchmen graphic novel is canon.
“Those original twelve issues are our Old Testament. When the New Testament came along, it did not erase what came before it. Creation. The Garden of Eden. Abraham and Isaac. The Flood. It all happened. And so it will be with Watchmen. The Comedian died. Dan and Laurie fell in love. Ozymandias saved the world and Dr. Manhattan left it just after blowing Rorschach to pieces in the bitter cold of Antarctica.
To be clear. Watchmen is canon.”
However, he also noted it would not be a sequel.
“This new story must be original. It has to vibrate with the seismic unpredictability of its own tectonic plates. It must ask new questions and explore the world through a fresh lens. Most importantly, it must be contemporary.”
Are you looking forward to Watchmen? Do you plan on checking it out?
