DC Comics Publisher Jim Lee revealed a first look at actress Brec Bassinger as Courtney Whitmore aka Stargirl in the upcoming DC Universe Stargirl television show.

Lee took to Twitter where wrote, “What presence, just spectacular! The costumers really outdid themselves.”

While Lee was enamored by Whitmore’s Stargirl many fans were much more impressed by Patrick Dugan aka S.T.R.I.P.E., who is Whitmore’s stepfather in the comics. Dugan where’s a robotic suit of armor known as the S.T.R.I.P.E. armor that grants him superhuman durability and strength. It also comes equipped with a number of weapons and gadgetry and can also fly.

Others were just huge fans of the Stargirl costume!

The Stargirl series will follow High School sophomore Courtney Whitmore and a group of young heroes who will fight to stop the villains of the past. Not only will the series star Stargirl, but it will feature the Justice Society of America. However, it won’t be the Justice Society of America you might remember from the comics.

DC promises the series “reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in a fun, exciting and unpredictable series.”
Stargirl was originally created by Geoff Johns all the way back in 1999. The character was inspired by his late sister who died in a 1996 plane explosion.

Johns spoke to Deadline about the character and what it means to him:

“Stargirl was the first character I created for DC. Most important, Courtney Whitmore was inspired by my sister who passed away. To have an opportunity to tell a story celebrating this superhero was literally the first thing I wanted to do because it is so personal to me. Also, a character that speaks to being young, to a legacy and to pushing forward seems so important to me nowadays.”

The series is expected to premiere sometime in 2019. It will be produced by Warner Bros. Television, Mad Ghost Productions and Berlanti Productions. It is scheduled to have a 13-episode run for the first season.
