WWE Superstar and 16-time world champion John Cena is not slowing down in his transition to Hollywood. He announced Wednesday that he’s joined the cast of Nickelodeon’s Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as the voice of Baron Draxon, a new villain created specifically for the 2D-animated series.
Cena made the announcement in a video uploaded to Nickelodeon’s YouTube channel. Watch below.
Nickelodeon describes Baron Draxon as “an alchemist warrior mutant who seeks to turn all of humanity into mutants.” He will be a recurring character who will debut in the show’s debut episode later this year.
Cena will have a very busy 2018. In addition to announcing his role on Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, he also revealed that he’s returning to host the Kids’ Choice Awards and will premiere a new game show called Keep It Spotless, on which contestants have to “keep it spotless” in order to win. He’s also starring as Agent Burns in the Transformers spin-off Bumblebee: The Movie, set for release December 21.
If all that isn’t enough Cena will also still make sporadic appearances in WWE, with a main event match against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans.
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be Nickelodeon’s second TMNT series, and it will take a different approach than most other adaptations. While Leonardo is typically depicted as the leader of the turtles, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will have Raphael in the leadership role.
Nickelodeon’s first TMNT series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, ended in 2017 after five seasons.
