A new Mandalorian theory explains just why the remnants of the Empire wanted to get their hands on Baby Yoda.
YouTuber Script Doctor details “they are going to try and grow Midi-chlorians.”
While discussing questions he would have for George Lucas about the original idea of Midi-chlorians introduced in the prequel trilogy, Script Doctor reveals exactly why the Empire might want to grow and then harvest Midi-chlorians from Baby Yoda.
He questions, “If the Midi-chlorians are a conduit of the Force does that mean that Jedi can harvest and grow Midi-chlorians and put them into their students?”
He continues, “Could it be possible to give a Jedi 10 or 20 times the Midi-chlorians they naturally have to become more powerful. Would this allow us to have artificial Jedi so to speak?”
Script Doctor adds, “Could we play with the idea of the Midi-chlorians being a drug that these would-be artificial Jedi have to take every so often to maintain their connection to the Force?”
If Midi-chlorians do act like a drug, Script Doctor says, “It does two things. One, gives cool options for this new idea to explore. And two, highlights how identifying what makes the Jedi special and rare can be copied and removed so it makes the Jedi special in the first place.”
He concludes, “It also directs one to ask, ‘Could everyone be altered to become a Jedi?'”
Back in 1981, before Midi-chlorians were introduced in the prequel trilogies, George Lucas indicated that anyone could tap into the Force.
When asked by Lawrence Kasdan during the Revenge of the Jedi Story Conference in 1981 if anyone could hook into the Force, Lucas responded, “Yes, everybody can do it.”
He would reiterate that the Force is not unique to the Jedi, “It’s just the Jedi who take the time to do it.”
Richard Marquand added, “They use it as a technique.”
Lucas explained, “Like yoga. If you want to take the time to do it, you can do it, but the ones that really want to do it are the ones who are into that kind of thing, Also like karate. Also another misconception is that Yoda teaches Jedi, but he is like a guru; he doesn’t go out and fight anybody.”
A couple of years before that in 1977’s The Making of Star Wars: The Definitive Story Behind the Original Film, Lucas described that certain individuals have more Midi-chlorians in their cells thus giving them a higher awareness of the Force.
Lucas stated, “It is said that certain creatures are born with a higher awareness of the Force than humans. Their brains are different; they have more midi-chlorians in their cells.”
Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn would explain how Midi-chlorians work in The Phantom Menace, “Midi-chlorians are a microscopic life form that reside within all living cells.”
Qui-Gon notes they live within people’s cells and that people have a symbiotic relationship with them.

He continues, “Life forms living together for mutual advantage. Without the Midi-chlorians life could not exist and we would have no knowledge of the Force. They continually speak to us, telling us the will of the Force. When you learn to quiet your mind, you’ll hear them speaking to you.”
It’s not out of the realm of possibility that the remnants of the Empire would want to harvest the cells of Baby Yoda if he has a high Midi-chlorian count.
They could then infuse their soldiers with the Midi-chlorians giving them an advantage when it comes to tapping into the Force and using Force abilities.
What do you make of this theory? Do you think this is why the remnants of the Empire want to get their hands on Baby Yoda?
