There are a plethora of characters from Toho fans want to see in the MonsterVerse. Some are a tad outlandish, but with Adam Wingard firmly in charge after Godzilla vs. Kong, we aren’t living in the world of Gareth Edwards’s grounded approach anymore.

The creators of the Apple TV Plus series Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Chris Black and Matt Fraction seem to agree. While plotting where the show can go in season two, which will be set on Skull Island, they threw out a couple of names they dream about bringing off Toho’s “very deep bench.”

One is less a kaiju and more a mech in the category of Mechagodzilla, but he would probably serve as an ally to Titans and Monarch based on his past. That character is the friendly robot Jet Jaguar who only appeared once in the Showa Era, at least in a feature film, but has always kept a devoted following.

Fraction is among those devotees and he sees potential. “I don’t think Jet Jaguar is hard to translate here, but I would love to have this fight for six more seasons,” he told Comicbook.com this year. That fight he referred to is his endless lobbying for the campy android to Black.

“Matt keeps pitching Jet Jaguar and I keep shooting him down. We’ll see,” stated Black. Fraction added, “I would love to be able to introduce a MonsterVerse iteration of a Toho creature that hasn’t been in the films to the show. It’s a very deep bench and I think everyone has their own favorites. I love Jet Jaguar, he’s not quite a kaiju, but I love Jet Jaguar.”

Jet Jaguar’s existence began in Godzilla vs. Megalon, one of the campier outings that wasn’t received so well for a long time. Outside the reception of the film globally, the smiley robot’s genesis came with controversy. The invention of a third-grader who won a contest, Toho completely revamped the concept into something else and phased out the kid’s vision.

What he became is the Ultraman riff bordering on parody we all know today that can fly, grow, and even up the score when Godzilla is in a literal ring of fire against Gigan.

Other than his lone Showa film appearance, Jet Jaguar has resurfaced over the years in manga, anime such as Godzilla: Singular Point, the kitschy kid show Godzilla Island, and in one of Toho’s most recent commemorative short films made for Godzilla Day.

As for what Chris Black wants to see down the line, he nominated a creature getting a lot of press lately, Hedorah. “I personally love Hedorah the Smog Monster. Toho have been incredible collaborators and I think any of their creations would be available to us if we wanted to bring them into our world,” he said.
