Netflix’s She-Ra and the Princesses of Power showrunner Noelle Stevenson recently released their redesign for Spinnerella and fans are not taking to it at all.
Here’s the new redesign:

Along with the redesign, Stevenson also released a brief description of the character:
“Spinnerella is not tied to a specific kingdom, but she’s always been a staunch ally for the Rebellion. By spinning, she can create cyclones of wind to blow the enemy away. She usually has a kind, loving nature, but she can go from gentle breeze to mighty storm in a heartbeat.”
Fans took to Twitter to express their distaste for the redesign, and pointed out how different this character design was from the original Spinnerella.

The fat one has the power to break wind. Nicely done, Netflix.

Fixed it for you. I put in a little bit more of realism. pic.twitter.com/NwjsuSr08F

I'm noticing a pattern. They seem more than happy to give them fat bodies but refuse to give them similarly fat faces.

I dont mean to be rude buuuuut….
The revamp has the body of a husky build but her neck and head is of a thin lady. So it comes off wierd

One user even compared her to Valiant’s superhero Faith.
Is… is that Faith with a dye job?
— Black Cap™? (@BlackCap27) November 6, 2018
There’s obviously more than enough digesting going on with her.
— Crumplepoint (@Crumplepoint) November 6, 2018
She must spin into a lot of bakeries.

I wonder if they’ll properly animate her fat jiggles when she spins
— Michael Derrick (@cauldroncomics) November 5, 2018
That "going from gentle breeze to might storm in a heartbeat" is probably her hypertension.

The original was eaten bit by bit, including clothing, by the new one. The only explanation.

An overweight body goes against her theme of wind. She should be delicate and lean. I could see this build possibly for ground or stone.

Honestly, the new one is a neat design in itself, albeit a bit boring. Sadly, it fails when it comes to representing the character – she doesn't look like she's very, say, "airy".
— Твидовая Утка (@blessmasoul) November 6, 2018
They could've created a character who looks like this and controls clouds and make her Spinnerella's friend. That would be a nice duo, they would have matching powers and color schemes. But no. They are trying to fight stereotypes by ruining the basics of character design.

The new design has the superpower of type 2 diabetes
— heavens_feel (@heavens_feel) November 6, 2018
It gets worse and worse with every new stuff they release. Body positive? I see unhealthy lifestile.

Does the artist know how anatomy works? If she's so husky, why is her neck thin?
— OYB | Chibi Nightmare (@OYB_Plainview) November 6, 2018
Looks like spinnerella needs to go to spin class
— Michael Derrick (@cauldroncomics) November 5, 2018
Now I can see what a purple/pink spinning blob looks like. Thanks for achieving my dreams. ?

Some folks did find the design inspiring.
SHE'S GORGEOUS!!! I LOVE her colour scheme! ???

A fat icon, I love her

The more Netflix and Noelle Stevenson release about She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, the worse the show looks. It’s honestly hard to even call the she show She-Ra since the characters have been completely redesigned and look nothing like the originals. It just looks like another person trying to create their own IP using the brand recognition of a popular 80s animated show and completely not understanding the actual source material. Much like other companies and brands who have tried to do this I expect She-Ra and the Princesses of Power to go broke. In fact, it already appears there are problems for the show as they moved up the release date to November 13th in what looks to be a move to avoid competition with the upcoming Fantastic Beasts film.
What do you think about this new Spinnerella design? Do you plan on watching She-Ra and the Princesses of Power?
