Newly announced Daredevil: Born Again directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead recently shared an update on where they are at for the show that is undergoing “a significant creative reboot.”
Moorhead informed TheWrap, “It is day zero.”
He added, “We’re currently just consuming Daredevil content, not just the Netflix show but all the possible material. We’re just making our stew of information nice and thick.”
Benson for his part joked, “We have the best answer for you. So you see this space we’re in right now? This is our office and we just found out we have an office about 45 minutes ago. And that’s what we’re at with Daredevil.”
The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit revealed in the middle of October that Marvel Studios was scrapping the original show and planning a “significant creative reboot of the series.”
As part of their reboot they canned writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman as well as all the show’s planned directors. While Ord and Corman were removed from main creative duties they would still remain as executive producers.
Along with the announcement that they were scrapping and rebooting Daredevil: Born Again, Marvel Studios’ head of streaming, television, and animation Brad Winderbaum revealed that the company was restructuring its TV division.
Kit explained, “Showrunners will write pilots and show bibles. The days of Marvel shooting an entire series, from She-Hulk to Secret Invasion, then looking at what’s working and what’s not, are done.”
At the end of October, it was announced that Marvel Studios had tapped Dario Scardapane, who previously worked on The Punisher and Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, as the showrunner for the series.
Along with Scardapane, Benson and Moorhead were announced as directors. They previously worked on Loki Season 2 as well as multiple episodes of Moon Knight.
The original plan for the series was reportedly a legal procedural that did not have Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock show up in costume as Daredevil until the fourth episode.
A description of the series on the U.S. Copyright Office Public Records System read, “Mravel Studios presents Daredevil in which longtime rivals Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) try to leave behind their darker alter-egos to serve the people of New York only to have their pasts catch up to them. In the first episode of the series we are reintroduced to the world of Daredevil.”
Along with Cox and D’Onforio the series was expected to see the return of Jon Bernthal as Punisher. Other members of the cast included Nikki James playing a race replaced Kristen McDuffie, Sandrine Holt as Vanessa Fisk, Genneya Walton as BB Urich, Clark Johnson as Cherry, Arty Froushan as Buck Cashman, and Zabryna Guevara as Sheila Rivera.
