Report: Transformers Actress Hailee Steinfeld to Play Kate Bishop in Disney+ Hawkeye Show

A new report indicates Transformers actress Hailee Steinfeld will play Kate Bishop in the upcoming Hawkeye show on Disney+.

Variety reports they have “learned exclusively from sources that Steinfeld has been offered a lead role in the upcoming “Hawkeye” series at Disney Plus.”

Variety notes Steinfeld will “play Kate Bishop” if she accepts the role.

Marvel Studios teased Kate Bishop in an Avengers: Endgame trailer as Clint Barton trained his daughter, Lila, to use the bow and arrow. (Related: Marvel’s Latest Avengers: Endgame Trailer Teases Kate Bishop)

Following that tease, rumors sprouted up that Disney and Marvel Studios were developing a Hawkeye show for Disney+ that would see Clint Barton played by Jeremy Renner pass the Hawkeye mantle down to Kate Bishop. (Related: Report: Jeremy Renner to Star in Hawkeye Series on Disney+)

Those rumors would be confirmed when Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios announced the Hawkeye TV series at San Diego Comic-Con in July.

Who is Kate Bishop?

Kate Bishop is a relatively new character in the comics. She was created by Allan Heinberg and artist Jim Cheung and first appeared in Young Avengers #1 in 2005.

Kate was the daughter of Derek Bishop, an extremely wealthy publishing executive that afforded Kate a life of luxury. However, she would become a social advocate and perform charity work. Bishop decides to become a hero after she is attacked one night in Central Park with the heavy insinuation that she’s sexually assaulted. She dedicates her life to training in archery, fencing, sword fighting, self-defense, and other forms of combat.

She would eventually join the Young Avengers and bankroll the team after she helped the Young Avengers take down a number of gunmen who crashed her sister’s wedding.

She would eventually raid the Avengers’ supply closet to create her uniform. She would use Mockingbird’s Battle Staves and mask, Swordsman’s sword, Black Widow’s utility belt, and Hawkeye’s bow.

Captain America would even approve of her use of Hawkeye granting her permission to use the moniker.

Steinfeld is no stranger to Marvel. She recently voiced Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. She also recently played Charlie in Bumblebee. She will be playing Emily Dickinson in the upcoming Dickinson TV series.
