Rumor: Donald Glover To Reprise His Role as Lando Calrissian in New Star Wars Disney+ Show

A new rumor details that Donald Glover will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian in an upcoming Disney+ series.

The rumor comes from Mikey Sutton and his Geekosity Facebook group.

Sutton explains:

“A Lando mini-series is in early development for Disney+ according to inside sources.”

He adds:

“Lucasfilm is planning to have Donald Glover reprise his role from Solo. While Solo wasn’t the massive box-office smash that Disney wanted, Glover’s portrayal was well-received.”

He continues:

“The program is expected to have the gritty Western flavor of The Mandalorian and the pulpy fiction of Solo.”

Sutton doesn’t provide any details on the plot, but it’s more than likely Disney and Lucasfilm had ideas to continue Lando’s story following Solo: A Star Wars Story. The film ended with an obvious cliffhanger involving Darth Maul all but promising a sequel film.

However, the box office results seemed to have put those plans on halt, but it’s more than likely those plans could have been shifted to TV.

Ewan McGregor confirmed the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series was originally going to be a solo film.

He told ComingSoon:

“It wasn’t always going to be a series, not initially. When we first started talking about, that wasn’t really in the cards but everything’s changed so much, so quickly. It’s really exciting that it is now. I’m really into the idea to be able to tell the story over several hours instead of just one hit. I think it’s going to be quite cool.”

The rumor comes soon after Disney’s Q4 Earnings Call. On that call, Disney CEO Bob Iger indicated they are working on more Disney+ Star Wars shows outside of The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and the Rogue One spin-off featuring Cassian Andor and K2-SO.

Iger stated:

“There is a lot of activity on the television front. Star Wars has three television series in varying forms of production and more in development for Disney Plus.”

He also noted that there will be “a lot of creative activity” on the Star Wars front.

“Star Wars 9 which comes out this December will be the last of the Skywalker Saga, and we’ll go into a hiatus for a few years before the next Star Wars feature. There’ll be a lot of creative activity in the interim. “
