A new rumor claims Samuel L. Jackson will reprise his role as Nick Fury in a new Disney Plus series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The rumor comes from Variety’s Joe Otterson, who doesn’t provide any details on what the actual show will be about or what Fury’s role in the show will be.
Otterson only writes, “Samuel L. Jackson is set to reprise the role of Nick Fury in a new Marvel series currently in development at Disney Plus, Variety has learned exclusively from sources.”
He then adds, “The exact plot details of the show are being kept under wraps, but multiple sources say Jackson is attached to star with Kyle Bradstreet attached to write and executive produce.”
Rumors regarding a Marvel Studios show starring Nick Fury have been circulating since 2018.
Scooper Jeremy Conrad spoke on his podcast back in 2018 detailing he had heard there was a rumor regarding a Nick Fury show.
Conrad stated at the time, “One, this is not confirmed, just a rumor, like I said I want to confirm it more, it’s just a rumor. One may involve Nick Fury. So there might be a Nick Fury on the streaming service.”
I didn’t run it on the site, it was exclusive to the podcast on October 20, 2018 – A show involving Nick Fury was rumored for the upcoming Disney streaming service (which wasn’t called Disney+ at that time). pic.twitter.com/avCj9Wvms0

While Variety says there are no details on the plot, scooper Grace Randolph claims this show will be based on the Secret Invasion storyline.
Randolph wrote on Twitter, “Also, I’m working to see if I can get a little more info for you but basically this is the Secret Invasion show which I’ve reported to you before!”
Randolph had previously reported back in January that Secret Invasion was in development.
She stated, “A possible Secret Invasion show that is being developed will lead into Captain Marvel 2.”
In July, scooper Mikey Sutton also indicated that A Secret Invasion series would lead into Captain Marvel 2.
In his Geekosity Facebook group, Sutton wrote, “It’s no coincidence that the Skrulls appeared in both the Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home films. According to my sources, all three are set to form Captain Marvel 2.”
He elaborated, ” It was on September 2019 that I scooped on Lords of the Longbox that Captain Marvel 2 would feature Veranke as the main villain in a loose adaptation of Secret Invasion.”
“The plans for Captain Marvel 2 are evolving with Secret Invasion remaining its nucleus. After the roots of Secret Invasion are planted on Disney+, Captain Marvel will be battling more than just one Skrull in her sequel,” he added.
These rumors seem to make sense as Jackson’s last appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was in a post-credit scene in Spider-Man: Far From Home where it appeared he was overseeing the construction of some kind of space station.
Feige has even hinted that Marvel Studios might adapt Secret Invasion. When asked about the Skrull’s friendly portrayal in Captain Marvel and whether or not they would be shown as villains, Feige responded, “I don’t think it means that at all. I think it means that the Skrulls are as diverse and multilayered as any other intelligent life form. Certainly like humanity itself.”
He added, “I think there are probably better ones out there as well, like there are with any fully realized characters.”
Adding fuel to Feige’s comments is the recent implication that Olivia Wilde’s upcoming Sony film will be centered around Spider-Woman.
Wilde seemingly confirmed she was working on Spider-Woman when she responded to a report from Deadline with a Spider emoji.
Spider-Woman plays a key role in the Secret Invasion storyline as the Skrull Queen Veranke impersonates Spider-Woman and leads an army of Skrulls to supplant numerous Avengers and the leaders of Earth’s governments in an attempt to take control of Earth from within and make it a new home for the Skrull people following the Skrull Throneworld’s destruction at the hands of Galactus.
What do you make of this new rumor regarding Samuel L. Jackson and Nick Fury? Do you think it implies a Secret Invasion series or do you think we could see something else like a Secret Warriors series?
