The CW Picks Up “Riverdale” Pilot Episode

Archie Comics and The CW have announced some exciting news. The CW has officially picked up the pilot episode for the live-action “Riverdale” TV series which is expected to start filming this spring.

The drama will be the typical one-hour long television show. It will be written by Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and produced by Warner Brothers Studios and Berlanti Productions. The show has been described as a subversive take on the classic Archie mythos.

The show will feature Archie, Betty, Veronica, and their friends as they explore small-town life and the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome facade. The show will also highlight the eternal love triangle between Archie Andrews, girl-next-door Betty Cooper, and rich socialite Veronica Lodge. The show will also include the entire cast of character from the books including Archie’s rival Reggie Mantle and his best friend and slacker Jughead Jones. The show will also feature Kevin Keller and additional characters from Archie Comics including Josie and the Pussycats.

Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schecter, Jon Goldwater, and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will be the executive producers on the show.
