The Flash’s Grant Gustin Teases Crisis On Infinite Earths!

The Flash’s Grant Gustin confirmed the goal of the show is at some point in the future to adapt the most famous DC Comics storyline, “Crisis on Infinite Earths.”

Since the very first episode fans have been teased with the prospect of Crisis being adapted to television. At this year’s San Diego Comic Gustin opened up about the subject, and how it is a goal, but a distant one for the team.

Gustin chatted with Comicbook.com at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend to discuss the show and future paths it might take.

When asked on whether we will see Crisis on Infinite Earths, Gustin responded:

We don’t really talk about it on a yearly basis, but it was mentioned early on. That’s a goal. Obviously, we would have to go 10 years to reach that…There’s a possibility for sure. It would be fun to get there. I don’t see why not.

In the original comic story the multiverse that is DC Comics saw multiple parallel universes get destroyed as well as the “death” of The Flash.  The first episode teased “Crisis on Infinite Earths” when they showed us a shocking newspaper article from the future written by Barry’s wife, Iris West-Allen. The headline of that article read, “Flash Missing Vanishes In Crisis.” A sub headline also read, “Red Skies Vanish” hinting at “Crisis on Infinite Earths” visuals.

As DC’s television universe grows alongside their movie cinematic universe how could this goal come to affect other shows? Could this event be used as a means to bring in other heroes involved in the original Crisis storyline? And how could it be adapted to the small screen? These are some important questions, that they at least admit will take years to get through.

The Flash’s showrunner Todd Helbing also visited with Comicbook.com and talked about the upcoming fourth season. He hinted and promised The Flash will be fun again.

Helbing stated:

“Last year, once we showed Iris die in the future, to keep up that doom and gloom, it becomes a burden, and not just on us writing-wise, on the show and it just sort of had this pall over the season that I think we didn’t expect to be so heavy,” he said. “I’m not trying to say anything bad about Season 3. I love Season 3, and I love Savitar, and I love the story we told, but I think just in general that’s about as dark as we want to take the show ever. So yeah that was a conscious effort of ours to go back to everybody enjoy being on this team and with each other, and make The Flash have fun again. I’m really excited about the scripts so far; they’re really, really funny.”

Gustin also teased the upcoming season and said it’s the show’s take on Rebirth.

The first episode is called ‘Reborn,’ and it’s our take on Rebirth. It gives me an opportunity to let go of all the weight that we’ve kind of built up for the first three seasons and have held onto. There’s even some lines that reflect that for Barry – that he’s been able to cope and move on in a way that he never was able to in the past. So it gives me an opportunity to let go and have more of that fun that we had initially in season one.

The CW’s The Flash returns with a new season on October 10, 2017.
