Here’s a still captured from the video:
You’ll notice they made sure that the left side of Cavill’s face is in shadow. It’s more than likely they hadn’t fully finished the makeup as Geralt has a rather large scar that runs down across his left eye. Maybe, the biggest concern about this first look is that Geralt is missing his wolf medallion and necklace. Hopefully, that will be added as they actually begin filming. His two swords are also missing.
Along with the first look at Cavill as Geralt, Netflix and showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich also added to the extensive cast for the show. The biggest casting is Harry Potter actress Anna Shaffer will play Triss Merrigold. Shaffer played Romilda Vane in the Harry Potter series.
Eamon Farren will play Cahir, Joey Batey will be Jaskier, Lars Mikkelsen will be Stregobor, Royce Pierreson will Istredd, Maciej Musial will be Sir Lazlo, Wilson Radjou-Pujalte will be Dara. They also added Rebecca Benson as Marilka, Shane Attwool as Nohorn, Luke Neal as Vyr, Matthew Neal as Nimir, Tobi Bamtefa as Danek, Sonny Serkis as Martin, Roderick Hill as Fletcher, Inge Beckmann as Aridea, Charlotte O’Leary as Tiffania, Natasha Culzac as Toruviel, Amit Shah as Torque, and Tom Canton as Filavandrel.
The first season of the series is expected to be eight episodes long. It will focus on Geralt of Rivia, a renowned Witcher. Witchers are monster hunters who enhance their body with rigorous training and alchemical potions in order to take on the world’s deadly foes. They also have limited magical expertise.
The Hollywood Reporter provides a brief synopsis for the show:
“Geralt of Rivia is a solitary monster hunter who struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.”
What do you think of Cavill’s Geralt? Do you like the casting choice for Triss? What about the other roles? Are you looking forward to The Witcher series?
