Aquaman Actress Amber Heard Defends Posting Topless Photo On Instagram

Last week, Aquaman star Amber Heard took to Instagram to post a topless photo of herself to promote a feature in Interview Magazine. The photo was part of a photoshoot the actress did with the magazine.

While a number of fans enjoyed the topless photo, one Instagram account, Lafilledo, documented a number of people reporting Heard’s account to Instagram, and it appears they were instructing their followers to report the photo as well. Lafilledo, a lingerie company, criticized Heard and Instagram noting that for some reason her photo does not violate Instagram’s Community Standards. In a number of photos shared in their story they point out the hypocrisy of Instagram censoring other accounts while doing nothing to Heard. In fact, some of the photos indicate Lafilledo has been censored by Instagram for some of the photos they’ve shared in the past.

Instagram Guidelines

Nudity is against Instagram’s Community Guidelines:

We know that there are times when people might want to share nude images that are artistic or creative in nature, but for a variety of reasons, we don’t allow nudity on Instagram. This includes photos, videos, and some digitally-created content that show sexual intercourse, genitals, and close-ups of fully-nude buttocks. It also includes some photos of female nipples, but photos of post-mastectomy scarring and women actively breastfeeding are allowed. Nudity in photos of paintings and sculptures is OK, too.

People like to share photos or videos of their children. For safety reasons, there are times when we may remove images that show nude or partially-nude children. Even when this content is shared with good intentions, it could be used by others in unanticipated ways.

Amber Heard Responds

Due to the bit of controversy, the actress took to Twitter to respond to Lafilledo. Heard mocked the company writing, “LaFilletEgo cool cool – love women supporting women!! (Btw- Pls let us know when you’re coming out with your chic new men’s lingerie line)” She then included the hashtags #FreeTheNipp #LaFilledo and #theDisruptor.

Heard also included a screenshot of two individuals discussing her photo and Lafilledo’s reaction.

Heard would then share the photo of her topless on Twitter. saying, “In case you missed it.”

She didn’t stop there. She would once again take aim at Lafilledo writing, “So ladies, if u ever get nipple shamed u can: a) report other women b) try & organize women 2 gang up on other women who r fighting the same fight c) use ANY of that energy 2, i dunno, change the system u think is so unfair 2 begin with. Go #lafillet #lafilledo

What do you think Amber Heard’s response? What do you make of the fact that Instagram has not taken the photo down despite it violating their community guidelines? Do you believe that there is a double standard on social media when it comes to celebrities? Let me know your thoughts!
