Guardians of the Galaxy Star Zoe Saldana Reveals She is Raising Her Sons in “Gender-Neutral Enivonrment”

Guardians of the Galaxy star Zoe Saldana revealed she is raising her three sons in a “gender-neutral environment.”

Saldana spoke to US Weekly where she discussed raising her three sons, Cy and Bowie, who are both 4, and Zen, who is 2. She explained her views on honesty and how she believes it is the best way to parent a child.

While attending the Planet Oak Oatmilk National Launch in April, Saldana told US Weekly:

“I’m always gonna be honest and that is always the best way to welcome healthy and truthful discourse, especially around parenthood. … [The twins] made a comment two weeks ago like, ‘Boys are stronger than girls,’ because they’re in that stage of comparisons. And you have to take a moment and kind of put together an answer that they will understand.”

Saldana would also describe her children as “blank slate[s], “[To] not bring all this charge that you have as an adult and as a woman into their lives. They’re a blank slate.”

She also indicated they had both “female toys and males toys.”

Saldana had previously told US Weekly back in June 2018 that she raises her children in a “very gender-neutral environment.”

Saldana discusses the environment she and her husband, Marco Perego Saldana, create at home. She explains that she performs a number of tasks that traditionally had been geared towards males.

“We have a very gender-neutral environment where my husband participates in a lot of tasks that were normally given to women and vice versa. I get to do a lot of male things, which is, I don’t know, put the TV together, fix things that break. We’re sort of a very gender-fluid household. I think it’s important to raise boys in that environment, and girls as well.”

Saldana would go on to discuss how her husband also decided to take on her last name. “He liked it.” She added, “He wanted to really represent being a part of my family and represent my father’s legacy. He respected the fact that he didn’t want me to have to give up my name just because that’s the norm.”
