Gwyneth Paltrow, who plays Pepper Potts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, took to Instagram to wish her Iron Man co-star Robert Downey Jr. a happy birthday.
Paltrow’s Pepper Potts might be a supporting character, but she’s been in the MCU from the beginning. She’s played a pivotal role in Tony Stark’s character development and as far as we know is set to be married to the billionaire playboy philanthropist. But she might be getting to do more than that. In Iron Man 3 we got to see Pepper Potts get her own superpowered abilities when she was injected with Extremis and used them defeat to Aldrich Killian. While she might not be getting those superpowers back, it’s quite possible she might be getting her own Iron Man suit in the fight against Thanos and his Black Order.
Paltrow confirmed she was in Avengers: Infinity War and seemingly hinted that Potts will have some kind of abilities during an interview with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show. And that interview was after Paltrow released a number of behind the scenes videos where she had on a motion capture suit.
In the comics, Pepper Potts becomes the Marvel superhero Rescue after she puts on her own Iron Man suit. The suit even came equipped with an AI version of Jarvis and was suited to her biology with cybernetic enhancements. It would be a pretty drastic change for the character given she asked Tony to destroy all of his Iron Man suits at the end of Iron Man 3. But when an intergalactic tyrant comes knocking on the door and threatening to kill billions of people it might change her mind that Earth will need all the heroes they can get including Pepper Potts.
Paltrow wished Robert Downey Jr. a happy birthday by posting a picture of her with him and Spider-Man actor Tom Holland.
She says, “I love April 4th because it was the day god gave us Robert Downey Jr. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, dear heart. Love me and that other guy in the photo.”
We’d like to wish Robert Downey Jr. a happy birthday as well.
