Sonic the Hedgehog actor Jim Carrey is backtracking on his multitude of political statements he’s made over the past couple of years while promoting the upcoming film.
In an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment at the end of January, Carrey indicated he will no longer be creating his political paintings and sharing them to his social media.
He stated, “To me, that was like a time, and it’s been a time, where I just wanted to be the lighthouse that was saying, ‘Hey, stay off the rocks, you’re headed for the rocks.”

Carrey continued, “We’re still headed for the rocks, but I’ve decided, ‘You understand my message, I don’t need to be steeped in it anymore.’ I think after a while … you get stuck in that kind of stuff.”
Carrey routinely posted his painting to social media taking aim at Republican leaders including Donald Trump, Jim Jordan, Roger Stone, Kevin McCarthy, and others.

Kevin McCarthy may sell all that is holy for his place in the new oligarchy, but he’ll never get that look of compromise off his face. I think it may leave a stain. pic.twitter.com/r9KhyS0mrr

Like Captain Ahab, obsessed by a white whale of earthly dominance, Trump beckons all those who enable his madness to their doom. Will we awaken to the truth or ignore our own senses and blindly follow a maniac into the abyss? Me? “They call me Ishmael!” pic.twitter.com/KCllWbh4YY

The last painting Carrey shared to social media was in late December.

Carrey claims his paintings are an attempt to encourage Americans to “exercise your vote” and “be a citizen.”
He explained his paintings are not about “hating anyone.”
“What I want to tell people is, ‘It’s never been a matter of hating anyone.’ I can sit down with anybody in this country and break bread. I love people. To me, I think we got tricked by politicians and by weird corporate concerns to believe that disagreement is hatred. And I will never go for that.”
What do you think of Carrey’s new comments regarding his paintings? Do you believe him? Or do you think he’s doing it just to promote Sonic the Hedgehog?
Sonic the Hedgehog races to theaters on February 14th. Sonic stars James Marsden, Ben Scwartz, Tika Sumpter, and Jim Carrey. It is directed by Jeff Fowler with a script written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller.
