Netflix Indefinitely Delays Felicity Huffman’s Romantic Comedy ‘Otherhood’ After College Cheating Scandal

Streaming service Netflix has indefinitely delayed the release date of Felicity Huffman’s upcoming romantic comedy, Otherhood, after the actress plead guilty in the college admissions scandal.

The Associated Press (AP) reports Netflix has delayed the release date for Huffman’s romantic comedy Otherhood, which also stars Patricia Arquette and Angela Bassett. Otherside was expected to be released onto the streaming service on April 26th. Netflix also shut down the Otherhood page. No future release date was given for the film.

Huffman plead guilty in the college admissions cheating scandal. She had been accused of paying $15,000 in order to boost her eldest daughter’s ACT score. The bribe was disguised as a payment to a foundation. The AP reports Huffman plead guilty to a charge of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud.

Huffman spoke in court, “I am pleading guilty to the charge brought against me by the United States Attorney’s Office. I am in full acceptance of my guilt, and with deep regret and shame over what I have done.”

She would add, “My daughter knew absolutely nothing about my actions, and in my misguided and profoundly wrong way, I have betrayed her. This transgression toward her and the public I will carry for the rest of my life. My desire to help my daughter is no excuse to break the law or engage in dishonesty.”

Huffman previously starred in Netflix’s American Crime where she was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her role as Jeanette Hesby. She is also expected to star in Ava DuVernay’s When They See Us. When They See Us is expected to be released on Netflix on May 31st.

When They See Us does not appear to be affected by Netflix’s decision to indefinitely delay Otherhood.

Netflix is no stranger to delaying their movies and TV series. The streaming service canceled their panel for The Punisher at New York Comic Con in 2017 following the mass shooting in Las Vegas.

Fellow actress Lori Loughlin, who is also involved in the college admissions scandal, was fired by the Hallmark Channel where she had a prominent role on the western drama When Calls the Heart as Abigail Station. She also starred in Garage Sale Mysteries as well as a number of Christmas movies.  Not only was she fired from Hallmark, but her image was “removed from promotional photos for the brand,” according to The Blast.

Netflix also reportedly fired Loughlin from the final season of Fuller House.

Loughlin and her husband Mossimo Giannulli have been accused of paying a $500,000 bribe in order to get their daughters into the University of Southern California as crew team recruits.
