Populist pundit Mike Cernovich called on Media Matters for America to boycott Disney after it was announced the company rehired James Gunn to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Cernovich spoke to TheWrap, “Disney’s rehiring of James Gunn presents an excellent opportunity for Angelo Carusone and Media Matters to show they are principled fighters for social justice.” He added, “I eagerly await joining Media Matters’ boycott of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3.”
Cernovich would take to Twitter to respond to Gunn’s rehiring stating, “What James Gunn said is worse than anything Tucker Carlson or anyone else has said. The left doesn’t care and isn’t sincere.”

Cernovich would follow that up writing, “James Gunn’s fans are sending demonic energy my way, which is what you would expect. These are evil people, Gunn did not seek redemption or fight for children. He didn’t even make a token donation to charity. Evil cannot win however as We offer abundant love!”

James Gunn had previously been fired by Disney’s Alan Horn after he was accused of pedophilia based on dozens of tweets as well as blog posts referencing sexual acts with young children. Gunn described the tweets and blog posts as “shocking jokes.” Horn would state, “the offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James’ Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio’s values, and we have severed our business relationship with him.”
Media Matters recently targeted Fox News personality Tucker Carlson. Media Matters President Angelo Carusone noted in December of last year they would specifically be targeting Tucker Carlson.
You’re going to see more companies moving ads from Tucker and from most of Fox News’ shows or Fox News entirely.
Just the beginning too. A while back, I noted that pressure would be increased on Fox News. It’s happening. And it’s going to keep building too.
Enough is enough.

Carusone would specifically target a number of Tucker Carlson’s advertisers.

Very strange to see @purdueglobal (which is part of Purdue University/@LifeAtPurdue) and @etrade sponsoring Tucker Carlson’s show when dozens of other advertisers have rejected him. Strongly urge them to reconsider. https://t.co/h3TkUtZK1e

Isn’t @Its_Just_Lunch a dating service?
Odd they’d support Tucker. https://t.co/VKjdz08KtW

Director James Gunn also participated in similar behavior to Carusone, where he called on Hulu, which Disney owns a portion of, to drop their advertising from Fox News’ Laura Ingraham.
I’m really looking forward to season two of Handmaid’s Tale so I hope @hulu stops advertising on the Aunt Lydia show – uh, I mean, on the Laura Ingraham show, so I can watch it. Online bullying & shaming of teenagers should not be supported by Hulu. Let them know.

Do you think Media Matters for America will launch a boycott against Disney for rehiring James Gunn? What do you make of Cernovich’s call for Media Matters to boycott Disney?
