X-Men Actress Jennifer Lawrence: “We Are Witnessing a Total Political System Failure in America”

X-Men star Jennifer Lawrence proposed how she plans to save the United States of America in a new video from RepresentUs.

In the beginning of the video, Lawrence declares, “We are witnessing a total political system failure in America.”

Watch:

In the video Lawrence states, “If you are anything like me, you may find yourself constantly overwhelmed by everything that is wrong with politics. And when I say politics, I’m not talking about Democrats or Republicans. I’m talking about the flaws that exist in our political system regardless of which party is in power.”

Lawrence states, “It’s a corrupt system in which we the people have near zero influence over our own government. And that is sad. That is not the country I feel like I grew up in.”

She adds, “America was founded on the promise of self-governance, but instead we have statistically non-significant impact on public policy.”

She goes on to state, “We can fix our corrupt political system, save America, and get to work on fixing everything else that’s broken in our country.”

As for how she aims to fix America’s political system, she’s teaming with RepresentUs that has a number of goals to fix the system.

Those goals include passing laws to stop political bribery that would fix broken elections. They advocate ending gerrymandering, implementing ranked choice voting, and implementing automatic voter registration and the ability to vote from home.

They also want to overhaul bribery and ethics laws. That includes ensuring politicians can’t be bribed with high paying jobs after they’ve served time as an elected official. They want to remove anonymous political donations and give every voter a tax voucher that would incentivize politicians to raise money from their constituents.

The group also wants to end what is called “lobbyist bundling.”

Here’s how they describe it:

“Lobbyists regularly bundle together big contributions from their friends and colleagues and deliver them in one lump sum to politicians. This turns lobbyists into major fundraisers, giving politicians an incentive to keep them happy by working political favors.”

While the group claims they are non-partisan and Lawrence is attaching herself to that, she has been anything but non-partisan in the past. In the run-up to the 2016 election campaign, Lawrence called a possible Trump presidency, “the end of the world.”

She also appeared on the Graham Norton Show, where she described that if she met Donald Trump she would tell him, “F*** you!” This was similar to her statements to Oprah that she would throw a martini in Trump’s face.

Personally, I’m still waiting for the world to end. And thus far I’m very disappointed.

Lawrence isn’t the first person in Hollywood to push political issues they claim to be nonpartisan. During last year’s midterm elections, a number of the cast of the Avengers took part in a get out the vote campaign.

Lawrence serves on the board of RepresentUs and is joined by director Adam McKay, the co-founder of Buzzfeed John Johnson, and the co-founder of Riot Games Marc Merrill among others.

What do you make of Lawrence’s comments and her political activism? Do you agree with her?
