As reported by Respawn First, Escayg told PlayStation Magazine:

“This is 80 years of Marvel history to play with, and you know, a lot of people forget, but when the movies first came out, there was an uproar from fans. Like ‘this is not how Iron Man speaks!’ And now we face the same thing with the game. We kind of anticipated that.”

Marvel’s Avengers has gotten some mixed feedback from gamers and fans who attended conventions where the game was shown.

From character models to uninspired on-rails mechanics, early impressions of the game were not great.

Fans have been critical on the internet of the character models, particularly Black Widow.

There has also been questions as to why Kamala Khan was chosen as the game’s main character in lieu of other heroes like Captain America.

It’s possible this fan backlash could actually be the reason why the game has been delayed. In Crystal Dynamics official statement from Scot Amos and Ron Rosenberg they cite “fine tuning and polishing the game to the high standards our fans expect and deserve” as the reason for the delay.

However, the statement also notes, “We thrive on your enthusiasm and feedback and we can’t wait to show you more. We apologize for the delay. We’re confident it will be worth the wait.”

There are some high expectations from Marvel fans riding on this title, make no mistake.

This delay could be good for all parties.

In a world where many developers think they’re the smartest folks in the room, seeing a studio attempt to take player feedback seriously is refreshing.

The key thing now, will be the follow up. Only time will tell if Crystal Dynamics can deliver a great Marvel game.
