On Saturday, Electronic Arts Star Wars released their first trailer for [easyazon_link identifier=”B07DJX3W29″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order[/easyazon_link] revealing the protagonist of the series is Cal Kestis. He happens to be white, and a number of fans weren’t taking it too kindly.
Here’s what a number of fans were saying about Cal Kestis:
Is it bad that I have no interest in recent Dark Souls style games like Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, Sekiro, and Nioh because they have no customization and just have you playing a generic white guy?

fallen order looks fun but do i really need another white male jedi

Missed the JEDI: FALLEN ORDER panel for STAR WARS REBELS, so I only just now saw the trailer. Looks neat. I’m excited for a true-blue single player only game. Kinda disappointing that player character is a generic video game white guy.

Star Wars is for everyone. Its a magical world where literally anything can happen and inhabited by diverse and unique aliens and people.
Jedi Fallen Order: Here play as this non descript white guy and only him. No customization.— Luke (@RupaulFTompkins) April 13, 2019
I am beyond excited for Jedi: Fallen Order and you know I’m gonna buy it on release, but its alwayd important to acknowledge the broader issues of inclusivity in video games.
You have an entire universe of diverse aliens and races and you make another white male Jedi? Really?

The Jedi Fallen Order trailer is enticing enough. I just have trouble getting excited about playing a broody white dude. Sometimes I forget that when I voice those kinds of concerns, I do so to a group of friends that are mostly represented.

That Fallen Order trailer looked like,,, ass?? I hope to god that music is placeholder, it’s beyond generic and kills the Star Wars atmosphere.
Also, god I hope that the protagonist doesn’t have to be the mandatory AAA game “white dude in his mid 20s with a raspy voice”— Autumn (@heyitsautumn918) April 13, 2019
Just saw jedi fallen order trailer.
Bummer.
I’m tired of seeing white guys being the main character.
Its just everywhere.
Plus i still hate EA.
Still a “no” from me

It’s super boring to me that Fallen Order is about yet another young white humanoid when the universe is full of interesting species and such that were also Jedi. Would it have killed them to make the main character a Twi’lek or something?

Fallen Order looks great but couldn’t they have saved Janina for this and not wasted her on BF2 instead of giving us some boring white twink ijs pic.twitter.com/bHl7cNp80h

There’s a lot to be cautiously optimistic about here. Including using Unreal 4 over Frostbite and supposedly no microtransactions. That being said I do find the game’s choice of player character a bit disappointing. Oh a white male human hero. How daring. https://t.co/i6mul3FyEX

I’m such a sucker for purge-era Jedi that I’m super ready for Fallen Order, but did they really have to cast yet another white dude, when women, POC, and aliens haven’t barely been explored??

Fallen Order thoughts:
– I’m sure Monaghan is good.
– I’m sure Respawn can pull this off.
– That trailer was not a good first impression.
– Nothing kills the mood like hyping up your brand new SW protagonist and then revealing them to be a monotone, white brunette.— 𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙖 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙖 𝙨𝙚𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙩 (@__caprica) April 13, 2019
Here’s the official description for the game:
“Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is an action-adventure game set after Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith™. Develop your Force abilities, hone your lightsaber techniques, and explore the ancient mysteries of a long-lost civilization—all while staying one step ahead of the Empire and its deadly Inquisitors.”
The Inquisitor who is hunting Cal Kestis is actually the Second Sister, who was introduced in Charles Soule’s recent [easyazon_link identifier=”1302907441″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Darth Vader[/easyazon_link] comic book series.
Cal will not be the only Jedi in the game. As seen in the trailer, a Jedi Knight named Cere will also be in the game and appears to help Cal as he tries to avoid the Empire’s Purge Troopers and the Second Sister.
The game will not feature multiplayer or microtransactions as confirmed by Respawn Entertainment’s Vince Zampella, “No multiplayer, no microtransactions, it’s a story game.
This would be confirmed by DICE’s Ben Walke:
