Legendary and Universal just released their first official trailer for Pacific Rim Uprising at New York Comic Con.
“The war we thought we finished is just beginning and the only thing standing in front of the apocalypse is us.”
Pacific Rim Uprising promises tons of action with new giant Jaegars and more terrifying Kaiju.
The Jaegars have some brand new abilities and powers including flight and instead of just one sword, they’ve got two now. There are also Jaegars with whips and mace-like weapons. The iconic Jaegar, Gypsy Danger, from the original Pacific Rim appears to have been rebuilt and upgraded once again.
One thing that really stood out was the Jaegar vs Jaegar battles. It doesn’t look like their only enemy will be the invading army of Kaiju either!
However, as the trailer comes to a close we get a glimpse of what will most likely be the main opponent. It appears to be some kind of mother of all Kaiju that looks like an enormous insect/Godzilla hybrid. We see at least five Jaegar’s team up to try and take on this mammoth Kaiju.
Pacific Rim Uprising stars Adria Arjona, Scott Eastwood, Tian Jing, and John Boyega. It also sees Charlie Day return as Dr. Newton Geiszler, Burn Gorman returns as Dr. Hermann Gottlieb, and Rinko Kikuchi as Mako Mori. The movie is expected to hit theaters in 2018. The movie is directed by Steven S. DeKnight based on his screenplay.
Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba will not be returning for the sequel. However, we do get a glimpse of Elba’s Stacker Pentecost in a mangled newspaper declaring the war is over.
Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro stayed on as a producer, but ultimately chose not to direct the sequel.
