A number of Captain Marvel fans are upset that Brie Larson’s character is wearing makeup in the new Avengers: Endgame trailer.
Following the first weekend of Captain Marvel out in theaters, Marvel releaed a new Avengers: Endgame trailer that features Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel interacting with the Avengers. A number of fans took issue with the fact that Larson’s Carol Danvers is wearing different make up in the trailer compared to her appearance in Captain Marvel.
These fans took to Twitter to express their displeasure about Larson’s new Captain Marvel look for Avengers: Endgame, which takes place nearly 30 years after Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s continuity.
Why is #CaptainMarvel wearing red lipstick and a full face of makeup in that #AvengersEndgame trailer? Carol hasn’t been to Earth since the ’90s! You think Nat gave her free range on her closet / makeup? You think Carol cares about fashion during imminent battle?

@Russo_Brothers Captain Marvel is wearing make-up on an offical trailer, Why? Why does she need makeup to protect the universe?

Okay but can we talk about why she’s wearing obvious makeup? I don’t think I noticed any lipstick on her during Captain Marvel and I thought she looked even more badass for going au naturale.
I hope this wasn’t a “she’s a woman so she needs to wear makeup” thing by execs 😕 https://t.co/YVwpY4WfC4

I *have* seen captain marvel, and I am also a person who puts on makeup if I’m going out but doesn’t wear any in other situations. I think it’s a direct effort to feminize her and I’m definitely not the only person who thinks so 🤷🏻♀️

I can’t stop looking at her, it’s so uncomfortable how much makeup she’s wearing considering (spoilers) uh… THAT scene after the credits in Captain Marvel. She wasn’t wearing any at all. And now this. Ugh.

One fan even decided to take their anger out on Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors of Avengers: Endgame.

A number of other fans responded indicating there was nothing wrong with Captain Marvel wearing different make-up over 30 years after she left Earth.
are you saying brie larson is a weak woman who doesn’t have a voice to tell the russo brothers she doesn’t want carol to wear makeup? it’s been 30 years since she came to earth and if she decided she likes wearing makeup then captain marvel can wear makeup period https://t.co/Bl4jAbWhEd

My opinion on the #CaptainMarvel makeup controversy in End Game. She has 1 thousand pound of makeup on because it’s 2019! Have y’all seen women of today? Most of them put that much makeup compared to the 90s which Captain Marvel solo movie took place in. Russos are smart lol.

Captain marvel can’t get a break ppl literally upset over today’s avengers trailer because she’s wearing makeup now? Wtf if u want context think in her movie it’s the 1st time to earth she’s an alien to earth but in endgame she’s known of earth for awhile, so ppl can’t put 2&2?🤮

Because CLEARLY she didn’t wear any makeup or even brush her hair in the Captain Marvel solo film… pic.twitter.com/cieV9JMaUa

The arguments being made appear to be similar to ones made criticizing Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman back in March of 2017. After the release of a new Wonder Woman trailer many criticized the fact that Gadot’s Wonder Woman had shaven armpits. Slate writer Melissa Martinelli even wrote an entire article lamenting the idea that Diana Prince and the Amazons had shaven armpits.
What do you make of Captain Marvel’s appearance in the Avengers: Endgame trailer? Do you think there is anything wrong with her wearing makeup?
