Rumor: Thanos to Return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Future Annihilation Story – Potential Cameo in Eternals
A new rumor suggests Thanos will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in an upcoming Annihilation storyline.
The rumor comes from We Got This Covered, who indicates Thanos could play big bad alongside Annihilus in a future film adapting the Annihilation comic book storyline. Not only do they indicate that Thanos could return in an Annihilation adaptation, but they also indicate that The Mad Titan could have a cameo in the upcoming Eternals film. However, if he does show up in Eternals, they note it would be a younger version of Thanos.
If this rumor does pan out to be true it could also indicate that we might see Galactus, Nova, and the Silver Surfer in the future as well. All three of those characters played pivotal roles in the Annihilation storyline.
This rumor of Thanos showing up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes after recent rumors that Annihilus could be introduced as the next big bad for the Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside the Fantastic Four and the introduction of the Negative Zone.
The idea of more cosmic adventures seems all but confirmed following the post-credit scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home. In the scene, Nick Fury and Maria Hill are revealed to be Talos and his Skrull wife. They also happen to be working for Nick Fury, who appears to be overseeing the construction of some giant space craft or leading that space craft on some kind of mission. The ship appears enormous, so big that it could fight an entire race’s population. It’s possible this could be teasing Galactus. The ship could be a Skrull refugee ship full of refugees who fled the Skrull Throneworld after it was chosen as Galactus’ next meal.
Thanos the Eternal Titan
As for the rumor regarding Thanos appearing in The Eternals, it makes sense and would provide a connection for Marvel fans to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In Thanos’ comic book origin, he was actually the son of two Eternals. However, he has the Deviant gene that gives him his ferocious look. Thanos’ Eternal heritage could be why he was able to use the Infinity Gauntlet, not just once, but twice.
If Thanos is brought back for Annihilation, the most obvious way would be through the Multiverse. In fact, that’s how they brought him back in Avengers: Endgame. We could see another version of Thanos from a diverging timeline. However, it might be a little too repetitive given the events of Endgame.
If they do bring the Mad Titan back, I hope they do it in a way that doesn’t lessen the finality of the final snap by Tony Stark. And they don’t cheapen it by doing the time/multiverse/another version of Thanos we already saw in Endgame.
But what do you think of Thanos returning to the MCU in a future film? How do you want them to bring him back if they do it? Sound off in the comments below or let’s talk about it on social media!
