The search for the next live-action Batgirl has landed on the In The Heights star Leslie Grace to be the next Barbara Gordon – although she might be without a mentor and trainer.

Grace revealed to Entertainment Tonight that Batman won’t be around for Barb’s solo DCEU adventure.

“Batman’s out — he’s doing a whole bunch of stuff — so I’m going to need some of my ladies to help me out on this next run, you know what I’m saying?” said Grace.

Based on her remarks, the Dark Knight will be too busy, probably with whatever goes on in The Flash or afterward.

Or it could be worse than that. Bear in mind there are rumors Ben Affleck won’t make it out of the multiversal paradox alive, so he might be too indisposed with an unfortunate and untimely case of death.

Unless, that is, Grace is referring to Michael Keaton and not Affleck which could mean Batman Beyond is in some form of development as a live-action picture or that the door is open to it – assuming her comments debunk the rumor Keaton’s Bruce Wayne will guide and train only Barbara.

The jury is still out on where that will go despite some solid speculation and reports Keaton has a few movies in his new contract; however, a Batman universe film without the Caped Crusader himself is nothing new between Joker and Birds of Prey.

Batgirl will probably look more like the latter if Grace gets help from her “ladies,” especially if Harley Quinn swings by Gotham again to make a scene Leslie Grace hopes to be a part of.

“I was freaking out! I’m such a fan. I can’t even,” Grace shared. “She’s one of the biggest badasses in the superhero world. I haven’t had a chance to meet her, but it would be awesome if at any point Batgirl comes through and Miss Harley Quinn drops by Gotham and [has] some business to handle, it might be cool!”

Grace is also optimistic about the return of JK Simmons who is in negotiations to reprise Jim Gordon for the outing. No agreement has been made that we know of but Grace pleads for the opportunity to work with him.

“I’m ready to learn a lot from J.K. Simmons,” she said. “If you’re listening, huge respect, and please play my dad! I hope you’re my dad.”

No details regarding Batgirl are concrete except that Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys For Life) are directing and it will be an HBO Max exclusive. A release date is not set.
