The Muppets writer and producer Nell Scovell reacted to the recent news that multiple tornadoes tore through the state of Kentucky killing at least 50 by blaming the state’s Senators.

Scovell, whose credits also include The Simpsons, Warehouse 13, NCIS, Charmed, and Sabrina the Teenage Witch, took to Twitter to blast Kentucky’s Senators.

She wrote, “Sorry Kentucky. Maybe if your 2 senators hadn’t spent decades blocking legislation to reduce climate change, you wouldn’t be suffering from climate disasters.”

“If it’s any consolation, McConnell and Rand have f’ed over all of us, too,” she added.

In a subsequent tweet, she wrote, “Tie FEMA aid to US senators from that state’s vote to tax carbon, stop fracking, support solar and address Climate Change.”

“No federal clean up funds for people who have helped create the disaster,” she suggested.

Scovell has since deleted the above tweets, and claims they were twisted.

She wrote on Twitter, “My tweet has been twisted into something it is not. My hate is directed toward the senators from KY who have endangered all our lives with their reckless denial of science and toadying to corporate interests.”

“Prayers for the people of KY who are suffering along w/so many others,” she added.

In a subsequent tweet she added, “Also, not buying at anyone lecturing me on how “innocent people died,” but don’t support gun control. I support both gun control and climate change legislation.”

Kentucky’s governor Andy Beshear held a briefing in response to the natural disaster on December 11th.

He stated, “We are nearing the end of the most severe tornado event in Kentucky’s history. Multiple tornadoes have touched down and we have damage in, I believe, over a dozen Kentucky counties.”

He continued, “The primary tornado was on the ground continuously for over 200 miles in our state. Something that we have never seen before. We have deaths in multiple, possibly many counties.”

“The hardest hit county appears to be Graves, where the city of Mayfield has been devastated. A roof collapse at a candle factory has resulted in mass casualties. As of 4:45 a.m. 56,854 Kentuckians are without power,” he added.

The governor went on to state, “We believe our death toll from this event will exceed 50 Kentuckians, probably end up closer to 70 to 100 lost lives. Remember each of these is children of God, irreplaceable to their families and to their communities.”

“We will make it through this. We will rebuild. We are strong, resilient people,” he declared.

In a more recent update at a briefing in Mayfield, Beshear stated, “his will be, I believe, the deadliest tornado system to ever run through Kentucky. Earlier this morning at about 5 a.m., we were pretty sure that we would lose over 50 Kentuckians. I’m now certain that number is north of 70.”

“It may in fact end up exceeding 100 before the day is done. The damage is even worse now that we have first light. A couple places have been hit incredibly hard, certainly Mayfield here in Graves County, but everywhere along the line of this tornado that touched down and stayed down for 227 miles,” he added.

He did recently report that the state will receive federal aid after President Joe Biden approved his emergency declaration.

Beshear wrote on Twitter, “We’ve just received some good news, Kentucky. President Biden has approved emergency declaration for the commonwealth, ordering federal assistance to help with local response efforts.”

“Thank you President Biden for your commitment to helping our people recover,” he added.

The devastation to the state was enormous. Not only did the candle factory have its roof destroyed, but ABC News reports an Amazon distribution warehouse was hit by the tornado causing massive damage to the facility and killing at least two people.

Another video shared by ABC News shows the utter destruction the tornadoes caused with one derailing a train.
