Speaking to Collider, Gunn had high praise for actor Chukwudi Iwuji and revealed he plays one of the main characters in the film. However, he also noted the film won’t be what people are expecting.

Gunn said, “It’s going great. Chukwudi, who plays Murn in Peacemaker, is one of the main characters in the movie and people are freaking out over how good this guy is. Literally freaking out.”

“I think that I’m really happy. I gave a bunch of scenes to Marvel right before Christmas break. Kevin [Feige] went… They were all really, really, really stoked,” he added.

Gunn then stated, “But also, it’s not going to be the movie people… It’s different than what people are going to expect. It’s a hard road, but I’m really happy with it so far.”

As for what people are expecting and how it’s going to be different, Gunn did not elaborate. However, back in November, he did describe the films as stories about attempting to recover from childhood trauma.

He tweeted, “The Guardians movies are, at the end of the day, a story about attempting to recover from childhood trauma, & trauma/abuse survivors share many characteristics, whether their trauma was physical, mental, sexual, or some combination of the three.”

The film will feature Adam Warlock, who was teased at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Gunn confirmed that actor Will Poulter will play the character.

He tweeted, “As you guys know I often strike down false rumors, so… um… Welcome to the Guardians family, Will Poulter. He’s an amazing actor and wonderful guy. See you in a couple weeks.”

Not many other details have been revealed about the film, but Gunn did indicate that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will more than likely be his last film for Marvel Studios.

He told The New York Times, “For me, ‘Guardians 3’ is probably the last one. I don’t know about doing it again.”
