Paul Atreides Rides Shai-Hulud In First Trailer For ‘Dune: Part Two’

Paul Atreides, played by Timothee Chalamet, rides a giant sandworm aka Shai-Hulud in the first trailer for the upcoming sequel film, Dune: Part Two.

The second film picks up after Paul Atreides defeats the Fremen fighter Jamis after he challenged his mother to a duel. Paul then chooses to have him and his mother join Sietch Tabor. Shortly after joining the group witnesses a Fremen riding a large sandworm with Paul commenting, “desert power.”

The trailer showcases Paul obtaining this desert power as he mounts Shai-Hulud to the spectacle of the onlooking Fremen.

The official description for the film states, “Dune: Part Two will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”

As noted above Chalamet reprises his role as Paul Atreides. He is also joined by Zendaya as Chani, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan Corrino, Dave Bautista as Glossu Rabban Harkonnen, Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV, Stephen McKinley Henderson as Thufir Hawat, Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot, Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, Charlotte Ramlping as Reverend Mother Mohiam, and Javier Bardem as Stilgar.

The movie is directed by Denis Villeneuve.

The first film grossed $108.3 million at the domestic box office and another $283.4 million internationally for a global gross of $391.7 million globally. The film reportedly had a production budget of $165 million. Meaning it either barely broke even or marginally made some money from its theatrical run.

The movie did go on to sell an estimated $19.1 million in DVD and Blu-Ray sales.

Dune: Part Two arrives in theaters on November 3, 2023.
