The Silver & Black film was announced back in 2017 with The Hollywood Reporting noting the movie would be directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood with MatT Tolmach and Amy Pascal producing. At the time, Chris Yost was working on the most recent draft, but Lisa Joy had also previously worked on a script.

By February 2018, Beer was attached to the film alongside Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Gina Prince-Bythewood was reportedly doing a polish on the script and was expected to submit it to Sony.

However, by June 2018 The Hollywood Reporter’s Aaron Couch noted, “Sony has pulled the Spider-Man spinoff from the calendar and is said to be searching for another date for the film.”

There wasn’t any movement on the film after that. Prince-Bythewood did an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2020 telling the outlet, “Things are the status quo on my side. I really love that project, and I do hope it can still happen in some way.”

She added, “It keeps going through different thoughts. First, it was going to be the two of them, and then the decision was made to separate the two.”

In fact, she even hinted there was a possibility of doing a Disney+ series based on the two characters, “Now, there’s a thought of ‘Hey, maybe we put it on Disney+ as a limited series,’ but I loved it more as a film with the two of them. So, my hope is that one day it can still happen.”

Now, in an interview with ComicBook.com promoting her upcoming Pet Sematary: Bloodlines film, Beer provided an update on the film.

She told the outlet, “It was something that Sony was looking at and then, as far as I know, is not currently developing. I had to hop off that to another project at the time. I was only on it as like- people hire writers as, it’s called a ‘weekly,’ I was helping them out. But yeah, I’m not sure.”

According to one report the movie was expected to see Black Cat being hunted down by Silver Sable and a number of other bounty hunters after she stole from the wrong people. Sable, working with the U.S. Department of Justice, takes on the bounty for Black Cat, but she’s primarily doing it so it can lead her to Mendel Stromm and give her an opportunity to seek revenge against him.

The movie was also expected to feature Tarantula and Scorpion who are also hunting down Black Cat, who has received some kind of enhancement from one of Stromm’s experimentations that aids her in her thieving skills.
