Rumor: Quentin Tarantino Wants ‘The Movie Critic’ To Reunite Tom Cruise And Brad Pitt For First Time In Almost 30 Years

Hollywood megastars Tom Cruise and Bratt Pitt have not starred in a film together since Interview with the Vampire. Rumor has it that both actors have an unresolved dispute that has prevented the pair from working together in the last 30 years.
Recent reports indicate, however, that renowned filmmaker Quentin Tarantino might be the one to bring Cruise and Pitt together for his cinematic endeavor.
Directed by Neil Jordan, Interview with the Vampire released to critical acclaim in 1994 — becoming a major box office. While the film was a success, it also seemed to have caused a riff between to the two actors — one that appears to have not been mended since.
“There came a point during filming when I started really resenting him. He’s North Pole, I’m South. He’s always coming at you with a handshake, whereas I may bump into you. There was this underlying competition that got in the way of any real conversation,” Pitt was reported to have said at the time.
While Pitt and Cruise have kept their distance from each other on screen since 1994, prolific filmmaker Quentin Tarantino may just be the man who may be able to end their longstanding feud.
Tarantino is in the preliminary stages of putting together his final Hollywood production, The Movie Critic, and — while the film isn’t in pre-production yet, the renowned director is reportedly trying to get Cruise to join the project, which has already officially confirmed to feature Pitt.
According to the InSneider’s own Jeff Sneider, via ComingSoon — Cruise is in discussions to join Tarantino’s last film, claiming that the Top Gun: Maverick actor may eyeing a “small role or cameo” in the movie.
The key hiccup at the moment is getting Cruise to make time in between filming Mission: Impossible 8, which was delayed until 2025 due to the writer and actor strikes, to make it work.
Interestingly, Cruise and Tarantino almost worked together in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. In an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, via The Playlist, Tarantino considered Cruise for the role of Cliff Booth, which eventually went to Pitt.
“We talked about it. [Tom Cruise] is a great guy and we really hit it off,” Tarantino said. “A collaboration could happen on something else. The reality is, was it always these two guys? It’s the casting coup of the decade” Quentin Tarantino said.
The filmmaker elaborated, “So the reality is I had maybe eight different pairings of actors that could go together in a realistic way in this kind of situation. Now the ones that I got were definitely my number 1 [choices], but I could never just be confident about that, I had to have a few different backups and a few different exploratory ways to go.”
The weight of the project being Tarantino’s final film, which might hold a lot of significance in the decision-making process for Cruise. Whether the actor is willing to work with Pitt in yet another film, however, could also be another deciding factor.
