Superman is filming on location in Cleveland (the not-so-coincidental place where the Man of Steel was conceived), and as is wont to happen, behind-the-scenes images are leaking out with clearer, more colorful glimpses at the suit.

The costume worn by David Corenswet was revealed nearly two months ago and didn’t get the reaction director James Gunn had to be hoping for.

People who worked on prior Superman movies thought the reveal was a misfire while fans were photoshopping improvements in the lighting, background, and suit design. Daytime shots shared by X accounts DCU Updates and DC Film News fix some of the brightness and contrast issues.

The costume looks a lot cleaner and less wrinkly on Corenswet (at least in the one below), which could be an indication he is in the middle of filming an early portion of the script.

Some images contain minute spoilers, such as the one below provided by DC Film News. Since the casting announcements that proved other heroes and metahumans would be in Superman, we’ve had questions as to how they’d fit into the story. Would they interact directly with Big Blue or what?

DC Film News gives us our answer, showing Edi Cathegi in his fairly comic-accurate costume as Mister Terrific, complete with name and slogans on his jacket.

Additionally, a small but significant detail is confirmed. Corenswet’s cape has the yellow House of El emblem that Christopher Reeve had and that’s been a hallmark of the costume design in one form or another since Superman’s inception.

It’s a good move by Gunn to bring the symbol back to the cape which is greeted by some with growing approval since the images made it online. The production and costume department as a whole, however, have a way to go before winning enough people over.

Though, it’s not as if they haven’t. A few are seeing the possibilities when it comes to Corenswet’s Superman in the Multiverse. Imagine, for a moment, him ‘coexisting’ with Robert Pattinson’s much darker, dour Batman who is still finding his footing in Gotham.

That elevator-pitch World’s Finest pairing might be far from the “finest” pairing. It sure won’t be a match made in heaven, although it would be high on contrast.

The official X and website for news and happenings in Northeast Ohio, cleveland.com, posted the above and more images from the Superman shoot. Check the website’s write-up for more details.

Directed by James Gunn and starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, and Edi Cathegi, among others, the DCU Superman takes flight next July.
