When the Kaiju No. 8 anime adaptation was initially announced back on August 5th, fans were only provided with a brief trailer featuring vague shots of different locations within a shadowed cityscape backed by the sounds of sirens and rumbling – a set of noises intended to really stir a sense of anxiety regarding the impending arrival of the series’ monsters of destruction.

But on December 15th, twenty-four hours after a mysterious countdown appeared on the official Kaiju No 8 website, the series unveiled a new teaser trailer featuring the series’ thirty-two-year old protagonist Kafka Hibino in both his human form – equipped with a heated chainsaw in his Monster Sweeper Co. uniform – and his monstrous kaiju forms.

In addition to this first look at Hibeno’s main forms, this second teaser also revealed that the primary studio responsible for bringing the series to the small screen will be legendary animation studio Production I.G., whose impressive filmography includes such sci-fi anime classics as FLCL and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.

Most recently, the studio has produced the successful adaptation of Yugo Kobayashi’s best-selling soccer manga Ao Ashi, and in addition to Kaiju No. 8 are currently working on the anime retelling of Masakazu Ishiguro’s sci-fi series Heavenly Delusion.

However, while Production I.G. will handle the series’ animation, Matusomoto’s fearsome and monstrous kaiju designs will be brought to life by Studio Khara.

Founded by the renowned eon Genesis Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno, Studio Khara is best known for their extensive work on the Neon Genesis Evangelion Rebuild tetralogy, and the Shin series of tokusatsu revival films, which include Shin Godzilla, Shin Ultraman, and next year’s upcoming Shin Kamen Rider.

Alongside this new teaser, the official Kaiju No. 8 website also unveiled a new throwback teaser visual depicting Kafka Hibeno in his monster form, as originally seen on the cover to the manga’s first collected volume.

Finally, production I.G. confirmed that their anime adaptation of Naoya Matsumoto’s manga Kaiju No. 8 will officially be roaring to destroy the small screen in 2024.
