20 Batman Lovers Who Could Replace Catwoman
Vesper Fairchild
If you read the fantastic No Man’s Land storyline, then you may be familiar with the Gotham City radio personality Vesper Fairchild. She was a voice of comfort for the broken city during that time, but she was more than that for ol’ Bruce apparently. Their romance lasted most of the storyline, but she left Gotham after that only to die at the hands of a hitman sent by Lex Luthor.
Andre Beaumont
For only appearing a few times, namely in the animated movie Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, Andrea Beaumont is quite well known amongst the Batman crowd. In that film she and Bruce Wayne were engaged before he ever took on the mantle of Batman. She broke off the engagement when she and her father ran into mob troubles and they fled the country. Of course, she returned and became the Phantasm in order to exact vengeance on the mob and of course, Batman had to take her down and of course, he was heartbroken at the end. Seems par for the course at this point though.
Zatanna Zatara
Zatanna and Batman’s romantic relationship largely mirrors that of his and Wonder Woman’s. Made most prolific in the animated series, Zatanna and Bruce knew each other before the days of Batman and although they both shared an attraction to each other and Zatanna was willing to pursue the relationship, Bruce was too invested in his quest to become Batman to bother. In the comics they share a strong respect and love for one another, but do not pursue anything romantic, mainly because Batman has a tough time trusting her after she wiped his mind clean one day. Women. Am I right!?
Jezebel Jet
Now, here’s a real jerk. Jezebel was an African woman who seduced Bruce Wayne and caused him to fall in love with her. He found out later that she was really working for a sinister organization, The Black Glove, and her mission was to gain access to Bruce so he could be killed. See? She’s a jerk. Luckily, One of Bruce’s other old flames, Talia al Ghul, had her killed in rather grizzly fashion.
Linda Page
Linda Page has the distinction of being one of the only characters created for the old Batman serials to ever cross over into other mediums. She was first portrayed by Shirley Patterson, and then made her comics debut in the pages of Batman #5. Besides being a romantic partner for Bruce, she was also a rich socialite who spent her spare time caring for the elderly. No real tragic backstory here, but she eventually just kind of disappeared.
Natalya Trusevich
A Ukranian concert pianist was one of the only women who was ever able to persuade Bruce Wayne to tell her that he was Batman. Although he was urged by Alfred to do it, Bruce was willing to comply so as not to lose her. Of course, this is a Batman story and it can’t end well for her, so Mad Hatter kidnapped her and when she refused to tell him Batman’s secret identity, he threw her out of a helicopter.
Silver St Cloud
This lady is notable as back in the late 70’s she, all on her own, figured out who Batman/Bruce Wayne was. Not bad for a rich socialite. She and Bruce were pretty hot and heavy until then and when she found out who he was, she decided that wasn’t the kind of guy she wanted to be involved with. She left Gotham for a while, but came back in the Dark Detective comic line in 2005, only to be killed by the unfortunately named super-villain, Onomatopoeia. Embarrassing.
Natalia Knight
Probably the best named woman Bruce Wayne has ever dated. Natalia suffered from some sort of disease and because of it, her skin was stark white, but Batman didn’t care; he dug it. Bruce was head over heels for this one, and she for him, until he realized that his attraction was brought on by a narcotic that she put into her perfume to attract men… or something like that. After that, Bruce dropped her like a sack of rocks. At one point, she even adopted Jason Todd, until she was stabbed by her own brother. Rough Life.
Jaina Hudson
Hailing from India, Jaina Hudson is, again, a rich socialite who attracts the eye of Bruce Wayne. They began dating and it was only after that that he was able to deduce that Jaina could actually split off into a duplicate of herself that was presented as a woman in a skimpy rabbit costume. This version of her was a criminal, however, and instead of dining on cocktails together, Batman spent most of his time trying to lock her up in Arkham.
Glenda Mark
Glenda Mark is most well known as the girlfriend for Jason Blood, who is also the human host for Etrigan the Demon. In a one-off Elseworld title written by Alan Grant, however, Bruce Wayne was the host for the Demon and he and Glenda Mark were romantically involved. The story is titled Batman and Demon: A Tragedy, and that’s exactly what it is. Obviously, things do not turn out well for her, Bruce, or anyone else in this story for that matter. If you haven’t read this one-shot, you really owe it to yourself to look it up. It is over-the-top bonkers and absolutely beautifully illustrated by Jim Murray. Poison Ivy is an apothecary, there’s werewolves running around, and Alfred is actually Merlin in disguise. Good stuff!
Well, there’s our little list for you. By no means exhaustive, this should give you a good look at some of the hearts that Bruce Wayne has broken in the past as well as act as a primer for his upcoming wedding with Selina Kyle. I’m sure they’ll have a long, happy marriage too, because if Bruce’s history has taught us anything, it’s that his relationships always come out sunny side up!
