Classic Action Figure Stretch Armstrong To Get His Own Comic Series!
The classic gel-filled action figure Stretch Armstrong who made his first appearance in 1976 will be getting his own comic book series from writers Kevin Burke and Chris “Doc” Wyatt with art by Nikos Koutsis.
Stretch Armstrong made a roaring come back last year at the New York Toy Fair when Hasbro revealed the action figure would return to its original 1976 design.
This new comic book series also comes off the heels of a 26-episode animated series that will debut on Netflix featuring Stretch Armstrong. The Netflix series will see teenager Jake Armstrong and his two best friends become superheroes after they are exposed to an experimental chemical making them flexible. They become Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters! The Netflix series is expected to debut sometime later this year. It will be directed by Victor Cook and is written by Kevin Burke and Chris “Doc” Wyatt.
We’re so excited to bring STRETCH ARMSTRONG into comics with IDW,” says Burke. “Our teen superhero TV series is very much influenced by classic comics, so Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters having their own monthly print adventures feels like a perfect fit.”
The comic series will be based on the new Netflix series. It will feature Jake Armstrong, Ricardo Perez (Omni-Mass), and Nathan Park (Wingspan) as they attend high school by day and fight crime by night in the futuristic Charter City.
Wyatt talked about how the comic series will work with the Netflix series.
“We’re carefully designing the STRETCH ARMSTRONG comic book stories to work as ‘stand alones’ for people who haven’t seen the Netflix series yet, but to also reward viewers of the show with more depth on their favorite characters,” says Wyatt. “We’re having a blast writing these issues.”
Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters #1 will give comic book readers “an early glimpse at a new villain introduced in the comics before making its broadcast debut.” The first issue will be available in January 2018.
