John Barrowman Takes the Helm on a New ‘Torchwood’ Series
Titan Comics will be bringing the Doctor Who TV spinoff Torchwood to the comic world with an all-new ongoing comic series starring the daring Captain Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper.
The series will be penned by Captain Jack himself, John Barrowman, with co-writer Carole E. Barrowman. The series will be illustrated by Antonio Fuso and Pasquale Qualano.
The comic book series is in continuity with the new Torchwood audio dramas from Big Finish as part of the official continuation of the Torchwood saga.
Torchwood was a BAFTA-winning cult science-fiction drama created by Doctor Who showrunner Russell T. Davies. It aired for four successful seasons from 2006-2011. It followed the exploits of Captain Jack, Gwen, and their team as they investigated the unusual, the strange, and the extraterrestrial.
The comic series sees Captain Jack return to Cardiff to engage the help of the last person who expected to see him, Gwen Cooper! A dark technology from a forgotten species has been claimed by a conspiratorial power… and in this collision between an ancient civilization and an all-new evil, the Earth itself may be forfeit! Only Jack, Gwen, and their allies from what remains of Torchwood hold the key to stopping a cataclysmic wave of destruction… On the road, on the run, and under fire – can Jack and Gwen put aside their differences and rebuild the heart of Torchwood… before its flame is stamped out forever?!
Torchwood #1 hits comic book shelves on July 6th during the third annual Doctor Who Comics Day event. The debut issue will see covers from Tommy Lee Edwards, Elena Casagrande, Blair Shedd, and Rod Reis.
