Marvel Reveals Lenticular Cover For Brand New Captain America #695
As revealed at San Diego Comic-Con, Captain America will return following Nick Spencer’s run with the character that is expected to end with Secret Empire. Marvel announced Cap would return in their new Marvel Legacy lineup in Captain America #695.
Marvel will tap previous Captain America scribe Mark Waid to take over on the book. Joining Waid will be his partner in crime from Daredevil, Chris Samnee.
Waid began his run on Daredevil back in 2011 with Marcos Martin and Paolo Rivera. Samnee joined Waid on issues 12 and 15 before fully taking over as the main artist on Daredevil #23. Jock did sub in for him on Daredevil #27.
Waid and Samnee brought their own unique tone to the book. Instead of Frank Miller’s dark noir tone, Waid and Samnee offered something bright. Benjamin Bailey at Nerdist lauded their run noting, “Daredevil became a character who was constantly saving people, fighting the good fight, and doing the right thing no matter what. You know, superhero stuff. The character was inspiring, the sort of thing more costumed comic characters should be.”
It looks like Marvel is hoping Waid and Samnee can do the same thing with Captain America after they allowed Nick Spencer to turn the character into an agent of Hydra.
And if this lenticular cover by Alex Ross homaging the 1968 Iron Man #126 cover by John Romita Jr. and Bob Layton is any indication it looks like Marvel might be getting back on the right track when it comes to Captain America.
Are you excited to see Mark Waid and Chris Samnee take over on Captain America?
