DC Comics And Warner Bros. Announce New Batman Series From ‘The Dark Knight’ Writer David S. Goyer

DC Comics and Warner Bros. announced a brand new Batman series from film writer David S. Goyer.

The new series will be a collaboration between DC Comics, Warner Bros. and Spotify titled Batman Unburied. DC Comics describes Batman Unburied as “an all-new original narrative podcast.”

Goyer will not only be the executive producer on the series, but he also came up with the story.

As for what the story will actually be, DC Comics is keeping those details under wraps. However, they do hint that the series “will explore the dark aspects of Bruce Wayne’s psychology.”

Goyer did speak about the podcast and provided some more details as to what it will be. He stated, “I’ve been a fan of narrative podcasts for some time and was looking for the right story—returning to Batman seems like the perfect opportunity.”

He added, “We’ll be using the unique advantages of audio to dig into the more nightmarish members of the Dark Knight’s Rogues Gallery.”

Goyer is no stranger to Batman, DC Comics, and superheros in general. He wrote The Crow: City of Angels. He would go on to write the Nick Fury: Agent of Shield movie in 1998. From there he wrote Blade, Blade II, and Blade: Trinity.

In 2005, he penned Batman Begins. He went on to develop and write for Blade: The Series before writing The Dark Knight.

Goyer also worked on Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, The Dark Knight Rises, Man of Steel, NBC’s Constantine TV series, Krypton, Terminator: Dark Fate, and the upcoming The Sandman TV series. He’s also working on Hellraiser.

Spotify’s Chief Content and Advertising Business Officer Dawn Ostroff also discussed the series. She stated, “David Goyer is an exceptional talent, and we can think of no better leader to leverage the infinite possibilities of podcasting to bring the nearly three hundred million Spotify users around the world a Batman saga for the ages.”

The series will be developed by Goyer’s Phantom Four production company alongside Warner Bros.’ Blue Ribbon Content. Joining Goyer as an executive producer will be Keith Levine.

Batman Unburied will be exclusively available on Spotify and is expected to debut on the platform sometime in 2021.
